Headline: Minto for Mayor Challenges Len Brown to Adopt Living Wage for all Workers doing Council Work

John Minto:

“It’s time for Auckland City to step forward and adopt the living wage for everyone employed directly by the council as well as those employed by council contractors” says MANA Co-Vice President and MANA Candidate for Auckland Mayoralty John Minto.

“We challenge Auckland Mayor Len Brown to follow the lead of Hamilton and Wellington councils which have both endorsed the living wage campaign”.

Minto for Mayor will deliver a minimum $18.40 to everyone directly employed by the council as well as those employed by council contractors.

“We are also working on a policy which will provide much greater security of hours for these same workers.  We will be able to achieve these improvements at no extra cost to ratepayers”.

“Inequality is a serious problem for Auckland with hundreds of thousands of workers struggling to achieve a decent standard of living while a tiny number of Aucklanders gain extreme wealth – usually untaxed – at their expense.”

“This policy will begin the move towards a fairer Auckland”.

“Auckland Council needs to show leadership to Auckland’s business community, applaud those companies which adopt the living wage and encourage others to follow their lead”.

MANA’s full living wage policy will be released next month at part of the Minto for Mayor campaign.
