Trust Audrey Young to use her voice for American Corporate Domination

Have you had the chance to read Political Apologist for the NZ Herald, Audrey Young’s latest column?

One can always trust Audrey to voice the interests of the status quo under the guise of an opinion, but she manages in yesterday’s column to adopt the preservation of the entire Washington Consensus over our very own independent foreign policy.

Rather than sticking up for Bolger’s fiery speech that would warm the blood of most NZers, Audrey mocks and belittles Bolger as if the mere expression of critiquing America was blasphemy.

She is in America for the US-NZ Partnership Forum so it’s not clear if they have paid for her to travel there or if the Herald are paying her. I hope it’s the former and that she isn’t this compliant to US interests against her own nation without getting an all expenses paid junket out of it.

To attack Bolger for standing up for NZ shows how the mainstream media elites view the world through the interests of their corporation and not the country they actually live in.

Here is Bolger standing up for NZs nuclear free stance and questioning free trade in the wake of the global meltdown in 2007 and what is Audrey doing? Writing for the American embassy.

The NZ Herald is not there to inform you, it’s there to lead you, thankfully as the comment section to this terrible piece of propaganda for the US State Department can attest, not that many NZers are devoid of a spine and righteously criticize Audrey for her ridiculous take on what may have been Bolger’s greatest speech.

The NZ Herald is about as well informed as Seven Sharp but with far more laughs.

  1. I totally agree Martyn – I damn near choked on my cornflakes when I read her piece. I’m still waiting for the Herald to resurrect their banner of a few years ago ‘DEMOCRACY UNDER ATTACK’ with all the incredibly dangerous legislation which is being forced through at present, but sadly, I won’t hold my breath.

  2. Maybe Audrey young should read the comments section. She may have been bought by multinationals but most New Zealanders don’t believe a word of the corporate spin she tries to pass on to us.
She, like the paper she writes for, is a disgrace to journalism.

  3. I didn’t used to approve of Jim Bolger when he was PM, but by golly he’s become an advocate for the people more recently. I first noticed his change in values when he was appointed head of Kiwibank. An interview he did on the Sunday Morning programme with Chris Laidlaw, largely about NZ’s nuclear free status, was excellent. He has become a true statesman and is not afraid to stand up and be counted. I too was shocked at Audrey Young’s mocking style, however her ploy did not work as almost all readers who commented were high in their praise of Bolger.

  4. I’m liking Jimbo more and more. It makes you wonder what was behind the coup that ousted him. I’ve posted before that when I was doing a bit of reading on the Anarchist political movement, I was surprised to see some of Jim’s comments just before he was deposed were actually similar to what some Anarchist had proposed in the early days of that movement (which has nothing to do with punk or the notion of “anarchy”).
