Announce protest actions, general chit chat or give your opinion on issues we haven’t covered for the day.

The Editor doesn’t moderate this blog,  3 volunteers do, they are very lenient to provide you a free speech space but if it’s just deranged abuse or putting words in bloggers mouths to have a pointless argument, we don’t bother publishing.

All in all, TDB gives punters a very, very, very wide space to comment in but we won’t bother with out right lies or gleeful malice. We leave that to the Herald comment section.

EDITORS NOTE: – By the way, here’s a list of shit that will get your comment dumped. Sexist abuse, homophobic abuse, racist abuse, anti-muslim abuse, transphobic abuse, Chemtrails, 9/11 truthers, Qanon lunacy, climate deniers, anti-fluoride fanatics, anti-vaxxer lunatics, 5G conspiracy theories, the virus is a bioweapon, some weird bullshit about the UN taking over the world  and ANYONE that links to fucking infowar.

    • Listening to the start of it is trying to the patience. Fast speaking woman quibbling, claiming numerous examples in the past of Free Speech Union breaking the rules of ‘good speech’ and when Plunkett? says please spell them out and not just mouth off (my words) she continually waffles on but can’t front up with an example. Have to listen again when I have a cup of tea by me so I can sip along while the talk goes on.

By the way did you know that we used to be, in 1950s NZ, very strict on language. If someone was to be taken to Court about bad language, the details should not be sent by post to the legal beagles as it was illegal to send offensive material through the post. Oh how pure we used to be! How the mighty have fallen.

  1. Don’t worry that you didn’t get to uni for business degree followed by an internship with some political entity somewhere ready for your upwards moving career. Get on to this college that gives you everything you need. You can learn to become a digital gardener. (For safety I add – /sarc)

  2. Geopolitical goals. Not kindly ones, or strictly scientific ones, pure science that is. Of course every thinking person knows that the military look at all scientific findings for their own advantage anyway and that much of it starts out as supposedly defence projects.

…Bad weather and aircraft availability left 12 Defence Force staff stranded in Antarctica for a month with a rapidly closing window to get out before winter.
Crew on a Hercules aircraft finally managed to fly them home on 17 April as part of a medical evacuation for an American at McMurdo Station.
That was four weeks after they were supposed to leave on 18 March.

ACT Party Defence spokesperson Mark Cameron said if it had not been for that flight they would have been stuck there even longer.
However, the Defence Force said a United States C-17 had been arranged to transport the remaining passengers back to Aotearoa.
Over the summer season, more than 200 Defence Force personnel were involved in Operation Antarctica working in various teams providing crucial logistics and maintenance support to Antarctica, New Zealand and the United States teams…

How can we get back to a simpler peaceful society when we have to cope with these?

How the internet came to us and disrupted society. In the late 1960s, with the creation of the Advanced Research Projects Agency Network, which was funded by the U.S. Department of Defense, the “first workable prototype of the Internet” was born. With ARPANET multiple computers were able to communicate with one another on a single network.28 Aug 2022

  3. https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/515815/te-huia-on-track-to-miss-targets-for-passenger-numbers
…At first glance, Te Huia consistently had more passengers travelling on an average day than what was aimed for.
On the average weekend day, it was getting more than double the passengers than were expected in 2018…
In 2022, NZTA said instead of aiming for an average of 250 passengers travelling on a weekday, there should be 400.
Waikato regional councillor Angela Strange said those targets were set by NZTA staff, not the NZTA board.
“Our understanding is that the board approved the 2018 numbers. The amended targets did not actually go to the board so we are basing our figures on the initial targets,” she said.

When the new targets were set, Waikato Regional Council said they would be difficult to meet without extra investment, which could have come from the budget which was not spent during Covid-19 shutdowns.
    But NZTA said no.
Strange said it was a chicken-and-egg situation.
“We know we wanted more services to prove the case, they said ‘you have to prove the case without extra services’.”

NZTA multimodal integration national manager Deborah Hume said it was aware the updated targets were more challenging than the original business case and might be difficult to achieve.
However, in a statement she told RNZ: “Noting that the updated targets contained an element of stretch, it is NZTA’s expectation that [Waikato Regional Council] make every endeavour to meet the amended targets”…

This is strange. Don’t we want our new projects to succeed? Why push them beyond reasonable targets to begin with, allowing for the fragile state of our economy under the leitmotif of ‘disruption’ that apparently has been set for this era of the 21st century??

How come it seems to be women connected with autocratic targets? Is that the price of women aiming for the top of the business ladder and why should it be? Has there been a dominatrix type that has over-reached itself at the top; carry it further and it could lead to topple! This wouldn’t be good for the females that deserve to be in higher positions because of their savvy, effectiveness and good leadership. Some are there already but the latest female wave is likely to result in hostility to all women when we need kindness with practical measures.

  4. New ways, out of the rut, combine rugged NZ individualism, with canny cooperation, foresight and commitment and encourage all, and all will put something in to the community effort from toddlers to the aged. We have to limit the easy ridership of the over 65s with their prevailing sense of entitlement and drag on medical services from dementia to plain grandstanding – in some cases makes you feel ashamed to hear.

If we want to establish communities of people who want to have human relationships and lives, we will have to find a way to opt out. This moves past feminism, and into I think a sort of ‘robust Christianity. spiritual, creative mode. Every main system of improving society that has been tried has backfired, and now is the time for all good and tolerant people to come to the party and commit themselves to a better individuality and co-operation – no leaving it to dream up something over huddles and consensus.

This sounds interesting and touches on the gnarly matters that arise in community projects where all feel they have a say that should be stated and acted on. The most determined drown the others out!

… each community has a history of successful and not-so-successful”community development” efforts. As a result of these efforts, over time the relationships among people and between their systems tend to become fragmented and highly polarized. Positions are taken; sides are drawn as problems arise and are resolved. Conflicting relationships tend to develop among social systems and the people in these systems when their attention is turned to community development problems. The solutions of these problems generally call for significant commitment and cooperation on the part of units (social systems)and people directly affected by the problem….

And consensus often is considered as everyone being of the same opinion, and those who differ being forced to abandon their opinion and agree with the vast majority. Very unwise that.
    Is consensus possible?
Consensus is reached when all Member States agree on a text, but it does not mean that they all agree on every element of a draft document. They can agree to adopt a draft resolution without a vote, but still have reservations about certain parts of the text.
