Like poverty, housing and living wage – National does barest minimum on new immigration cuts

National’s pollster and spin dr, David Farrar, must have come back to National with bad polling numbers because National have made come out with an announcement  to cut our over heated and deeply corrupt immigration system by a mere 5000 over two years…

Fewer migrants to be granted residency over the next two years

It will now be tougher for would-be migrants to gain residency under the skilled migrant and family sponsored categories.

Immigration Minister Michael Woodhouse today announced that there would be fewer residence approvals planned for the next two years to 85,000 – 95,000, down from 90,000 – 100,000.

The number of points required for residence will also be raised from 140 to 160 points under the Skilled Migrant Category and the number of places for the capped family categories would be reduced to 2,000 per year from 5,500.

…when we are taking in 69 000 a year, 2500 is window dressing. Which is the exact same thing National have done with child poverty, housing and inequality. The bare minimum needed to be able to tell journalists who ask that the Government is doing ‘something’.

It’s been a pretty clever strategy to date and keeps the sleepy hobbits from waking.

  1. Sounds like a glitch with the Blinglish Software again!

Its a reflection of the shrinking job market, eliminating the disappearing phantom “Ghost Jobs” & appeasing some red-neck voters in the party.

    Remember 45%+ of all jobs advertised are;
    #Duplicate advertisements on multiple sites
    #Casual employment
#Short-term employment Contracts (probably in breach ERA)
    #Contracts-again dubious legitimacy
    #Self Employment Start Ups

I all of a sudden get this sinking feeling??

  2. Reducing from 90,000-100,000 to 85,000-95,000… so it could be “reduced” to 95,000…!?! No cut AT ALL. This is cynical spin and propaganda to try and put down the groundswell of support for NZ First, and that is all that it is.

  3. This is so typically bullshit from National, a diversion, a nothing move made to look like they are doing something.

It is not residency applicants, it’s the bloody student and work visa categories and add to that the Holiday visa holders too. That is where the cheap labour is pouring in from, that is where our labour laws cease to exist and National know it.

Tinkering with residency numbers will not change a thing but then again it was never meant to!

  4. National are so inherently corrupt and pathetic.

There is only one positive action to take….

    Change the government next year.

  5. Same old shert different day Martyn this tory government finally have realized we have had enough of there ad hoc rubbish policies hurting our people and our country. Do these stuck up pontificated tories think we are all so dumb and stupid we will forget their nasty polices bring on the election it is time to see heads roll starting with the little prick at the top (JK)

  6. I nearly spat out my ANZAC biscuit I was eating when I saw that in the NZ Herald !

AFTER the damage has been done ,- the downwards pressure on wages because of cheap labour sources, the pressure on infrastructure, the rampant upwards pressure on NZ housing prices …

New Zealand , – home of the No 8 wire mentality , the home of the garage inventor and innovator that so changed the world in medicine , science and technology – being told by evil slug neo liberals we needed ‘ foreign expertise’ , we needed ‘ foreign business’ , we needed foreign populations here because Kiwis weren’t getting randy enough in the bedrooms …

Well Im fair bloody sick and tired of basically being told New Zealanders are thick , incompetent , and incapable of managing our own affairs because some dirty , filthy little cabal like the Business Roundtable ( now renamed the ‘ New Zealand Institute’ ) wants to rip, shit, burn , rape , pillage and plunder the last bloody drops of blood out of our country !!!

We the voters were never consulted on whether we wanted so many pouring into our country ( many of whom have poor English language skills) , from cultures who couldn’t give a toss about our history , our culture , our traditions – because many of them DONT !

I mention two main cultures , India and China whose people have crowded onto the big jetliners and come on over… now!,… here’s where it is divided into the political and the personal.

The fact is, among the Indians, they have a marvelous sense of humor,.. so much so a course I was on for investigatory work was a riot when this particular Indian guy was there,… between the two of us we had a struggle getting the work done due to our constant banter and laughter… fond memories. They are generally hard working types, yet easy going and relaxed . Good sorts , many of them.

Among the Chinese they often are very amiable. Polite, and , after you scratch the surface,.. they too have an often offbeat humour. So these may sound like cliche’s,… but generally most immigrants are fine people.

However !!!! This small country cannot sustain the huge numbers relocating here for many reasons. And for that reason there needs to be a major curtailment in numbers arriving here.Especially to prevent so many negative problems which , suits only the select few who profit from those negatives.

5000 is a pathetic reduction. And cynically , you will notice the 5000 is only to be in force for the next two years… which sounds like National hedging its bets and trying to placate the voting public’s rising angst at this situation.

Its time this dishonest govt was gone. We’ve suffered enough under them.

    • Wonderfully said Wild katipo.

My sentiments entirely couldn’t have said it better as a 72 yr old brought up by do it your selfer’s who only knew how to be frugal and survive their lives living through two wold wars and the worst depression in history now with all that prowess taught me this corrupt corporate greedy junta tell me to “comply” with their regime bugger the bastards they are all corrupt lying lizards.

Hand em high or bring back The Guillotine

      http://www.napoleonguide.com/guillotine.htm

I don’t care if these NAZXIs call me a subversive as Goebbels’s did to rid us all.

  7. Visit the Howick Historical Village

    http://www.fencible.org.nz/

and learn that over-age military men were encouraged to migrate to NZ on the promise of a cottage and land, but when they arrived there were no cottages, and most spent up to two years living in rather small tents (with their families); some decided that raupo huts provided better living conditions than tents.

When some cottages were eventually built they were divided up the middle to accommodate two families instead of one.

  8. I heard the Minister talk on Radio Live. It is happening as I expected. They have heard from their finger on the public opinion pulse, Mr Farrar, there is discontent building re stress on housing, transport and infrastructure, also on social and educational and health services.

So the Minister Woodhouse talked like “we do this about every two years”, meaning they review immigration numbers. That is a weak excuse, and he did not want to admit they let in too many that were perhaps of the wrong kind with the not necessarily needed qualifications and so. He maintained the view they did everything right. We know this is BS and spin.

It shows though what they do in many areas, they get about and do a few tweaks, to appear like taking action, by doing as little as necessary, or rather possible.

They seem to be planning the same for housing, Bill English now talking of Housing NZ building many more homes in Auckland, on land the Unitary Plan will now enable to be intensified.

So there goes the challenge to Labour, two important policy areas they felt they have an advantage on now, offering alternatives, are attempted to be reclaimed as being “under control” by the government.

While it looks good when Labour, NZ First and Greens attack the government on various failings, the main challenge is to present a solid, non negotiable, firm alternative policy program, addressing various issues. It is time Labour start walking the talk and present clear policies on all areas, and ignore the government trying to undermine the opposition.

Anger and emotive attacks at the government only achieve so much, the opposition needs to present a convincing, valid, well thought out and co-ordinated alternative, all over.

It is time to formulate policies, rather than drip feed, and dangle a few small carrots in front of voters by late next year. That would be the usual approach, but will in view of the government’s “action” (albeit small) not convince enough voters to switch.

Also more efforts need to be made to bring issues and discussions to the so-called missing million, as they need to be reached in some numbers, as the ones in the middle, that vague ground of voter potential, will only be the same pool that will decide carefully what is in it for them (home owners, professionals, small business operators and contractors), whether voting blue or red or green or black will offering them more than the others for their benefits.

Go back and do your homework, especially Labour and Greens, hammer out a clear plan, show a robust and convincing alternative front, stick to it and move ahead, thanks.

  9. Oh yes Martyn u have hit the nail on the head, the reduction is a joke, and will do nothing to resolve the problems we are having with all these new immigrants. I like us being a multicultural society but am getting really annoyed when I ring up govt services and speak to people with poor English skills who have got jobs over NZ’ers and am becoming very impolite about it to them! The family immigration cut is higher and good job as one family can mean 10 people depending on religion and circumstances. Short term visas are ok, as long as they are followed up and the people have to leave, as I am tired of competing for jobs and houses like many others with non NZ’ers. Tourism yes, but not long term residents from countries thqt should sort out their own shit and not come here and ignore ours!

  10. It is good to see the National Party putting the brakes on immigrants, although part of me wants to see more immigrants in order to make New Zealand labour market more competitive.

By reducing the number of migrants, it will dampen the housing market significantly, which is a good thing really because someone like me on an average income might be able to afford a house in the not-to-distant future.

Reducing migrants may not fit well with The Peoples Party, who are a potential coalition partner for National after the next election. It will also help increase contributions to ex-ACT Party Leader Don Brash’s “Hobson’s Pledge” lobby group, with the current migrants ever more keen to pursue a multi-cultural New Zealand, as opposed to a bi-cultural one.

So reductions in migrants is mostly a win-win for the National Party and its very competent coalition partners of ACT, Maori Party and United Future.

    • Not only would a reduction in immigrants be a “win win”, my friend, having one further emigrant by the name of David See More would be another great win win situation, especially if he goes on a permanent OE and spreads his comments to others who would not understand his language and ignore him there also.

  11. This chapter Mike HAS just stated is the most succinct policy WE HAVE TO DATE;
“They have heard from their finger on the public opinion pulse, Mr Farrar, there is discontent building re stress on housing, transport and infrastructure, also on social and educational and health services.”

    YES MIKE,

IN HB/GISBORNE, THIS CHANGE NOW IS SO VERY EVIDENT AS A CHANGE OF THEIR POLICY TO A SLIGHTLY MORE CONCILATORY APPROACH NOW OVER OUR BROKEN RAILWAY THAT MR FIXIT (STEVEN JOYCE) HAS SO AGGRESIVELY RAILED AGAINST RE OPENING OUR OVER FOUR YEAR BATTLE TO SAVE OUR BELOVED RAILWAY HAS FINALLY CAPITULATED SOMEWHAT TO ALLOW PART OF IT TO REOPEN AGAIN ONLY FOR TWO DAYS (WEEKENDS) AGAINST ALL HIS CONSTANT RAILING AGAINST OUR COMMON CONSISTENT CALLLS FOR IT TO RE OPEN. (SO ONLY A SMALL TINKERING AND YOU ARE CORRECT NATIONAL JUST TINKER AROUND THE EDGES.

WE WILL CONTUE TO FIGHT FOR ALL APPROPRIATE SERVICES TO BE RESTORED FOR RAIL FREIGHT/PASSENGER 7 DAY A WEEK AS SHOULD BE NEXT ALLL THE WAY FROM NAPIER TO GISBORNE AGAIN.

SO; The “Opposition Parties” all must gather together in an emergency “NZ ECONOMIC ALTERNATATIVE FORUM” to announce this STRATEGY LOUDLY I SAY! loudly to the MSM that they are presenting such a GRAND-IMPORTANT untied front; – to construct such a “extreme economic alternative” to the NZ voting public over the coming election, as to the tried & failed “trickle down” or rather “trickle drown” pathetic failed Nactional policies we have all witnessed over the last eight years and propose real alternative reasons to now change this corrupt bankrupt immoral Junta.

By all opposition parties finally gathering together in a grand coalition we may see the day this National evil finally gets there marching orders finally and victory reins again.

“Mike from Auckland”‘s proposal. AND PLEASE OPPOSITION PARTIES LISTEN TO OUR PROPOSALS FINALLY.

“While it looks good when Labour, NZ First and Greens attack the government on various failings, the main challenge is to present a solid, non negotiable, firm alternative policy program, addressing various issues. It is time Labour start walking the talk and present clear policies on all areas, and ignore the government trying to undermine the opposition.

  12. Too little too late. The damage to NZ’s public and social infrastructure has been done already, courtesy of this government’s policy of allowing free flow migration to continue, despite warnings of the negative consequences.

Housing is strained, as is social security, public health, transport, roading etc. The so called business investing migrants are only employing their own as a cheap labour force. This is having a huge negative impact on Kiwis in general.

For National, uncontrolled migration has been a devious means of inviting more voters for the government, much to the detriment of the country as a whole.

The immigration cull should have begun at least five years ago.
