  1. [ ” Like rust, the Right doesn’t sleep. Their failure to install a fourth-term National government came about only because of a fatal mis-step by (most likely) someone in the National Party/Government in a clumsy, ham-fisted ploy to undermine Winston Peters and cripple NZ First in last year’s general election.Whoever released Peters’ superannuation over-payments to the media did so with political malice-aforethought. It was an agenda to neuter Peters and his party, and it was executed with callous precision.

It failed because Peters was canny enough to counter with a parry that revealed the ploy for the ruthless strategy that it was. ” ]

Did anyone really think Peters was that politically un astute that he would go back for a second helping of abuse from National?

After that happened I thought ” Nope,… National have now sunk their boat good and proper this time”…

Peters has had nothing but grief from National , – many times from its very leaders ,- for decades… why should he trust them? He doesn’t agree with their brand of neo liberalism , either. And that goes back to Ruth Richardson and in particular , – Jenny Shipley who he didn’t like at all.

Peters can also spot a winner , – and he saw that in Adern. He only had to look over the other side of the fence and see English….to know who to line up with. Labours social policy’s lined up better with NZ First as well ,… so put that altogether and you have what we have now.

  2. That’s the problem with taking our eyes of the ball, the Nats and their fellow travellers will fill the debating vacuum with their own rhetoric and narrative. Their “tough on crime” bullshit is a prime example.

Daily Blog contributors would do well to remember that National is not here to engage in polite chit-chat. Their sole agenda is to re-take power and do it by any means fair or foul.

  3. Frank the Nat’s Peters WINZ payment fiasco was more hopeless than ruthless – but hopeless is worse because it shows the level at which the National Party functions.

Only an idiot would entertain the notion of Peters misleading WINZ, but importantly, it showed how completely out of touch National is with mainstream NZ, because WINZ stuff-ups are not uncommon.

WINZ deal with huge amounts of data, and errors occur, and most NZ’ers know this- and many have experiences much worse than Peters – but on Planet Key they just didn’t know that stuff happens, and they should have known it if they had reasonable interactions with the day-to-day lives of the voting public, but they didn’t.

Charter Schools – how to enrich yourself from the public purse.

Law and Order, they need to tread carefully here – if National will keep us safe, then why only now ? What’s taken them so long ?

    1. I fear Frank is right. We’ve taken our eye of the ball by fixating on irrelevancies. The Left is it’s own worst enemy when we have a Labour- led government.

  4. Not only the drums are beating but the knives are also sharpening for Bridges. By the way Frank, I just love the photo of Bridges as the front to this story, sitting on the loo!

    1. Hi Bert! I wish I could lay claim to the pic of Simon Bridges sitting on the loo, but the “featured image” is editorial prerogative, so not my idea.

      But thanks anyway!

  5. Perhaps by ‘smaller class size’ Bridges actually meant halving the size of each thirty-student classroom?
