  1. A so-called female academic who refers to people as “ dick- heads “ is a government hate speech advisor ? Spare me.

  2. Of course it is chilling that a woman who writes that 99% of university historians should have a curfew and an ankle -tracker, is now heading the government’s hate – speech advisory service, with its absurd unproven claim to “ excellence “.

Why university historians in particular ?

    Why a curfew ?

    Why an ankle tracker ?

She needs to provide some sort of raison d’être for this extraordinary proposition.

    1. Yes, it is better to let the student cheat and graduate knowing nothing, https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/cheating-scandal-exposed-nz-university-students-paying-chinese-companys-ghostwriters-to-write-papers/B6BUP44KGBCUTTJPG2VSGYXAKI/ as university lecturers are now targets of bullying from government sanctioned people who should not be in their job, let alone in charge of task groups about extremism. They are the extreme bullies that others (experts) are fleeing from.

  3. No.

When a protest against a government decision is generalised with vicious mis-labels like Nazi, derided, jeered at by the media, have projected motives unrelated to the protests rammed down their throats by people who know nothing of who they are and what they are trying to say and for all this to be presented as truth: This has enabled this ongoing move towards a police state.

Down-grading the generalist ‘Nazi’ slur to ignorant, brainless conspiracy theorists being led and manipulated by the far right is just saving face after the initial extreme hysteria quickly became too obviously untenable.

The minority presences of the very stupid, of extremists of all stripes, of the terminally naive, the malignant, the out of touch, the tragically nice, the outright crazy ….. That’s every ”legitimate” protest I’ve ever been involved in. And those protests were not generalised as BEING (or being manipulated by) any reviled portion. They were reported as the subject of the protest.

This ongoing middle-class hysteria continues to license to these authoritarian measures towards a police state. There is no principle with an out-clause in cases of fear, panic or personal enmity.

  5. Yep I blame the whole mess on Mallard. That’s why you put a time limit on an mps
    time in Parliament.

  6. On this topic, I went over to the Platform to see if the Free Speech Friday podcast was worth watching this week (Bomber’s been on twice) and it wasnt – Matt King, I can do without. So I happenned across this podcast

    https://theplatform.kiwi/podcasts/episode/the-problematic-disinformation-project

by someone called Charlie McCoy, citizen journalist but it is essentially a piss take of the Disinformation Project using clips of the Parliament process and the talking heads and PM during and after. Its funny and worth watching but also amply underscores exactly what Martyn is saying about the sinister and cynical nature of what is happening at the moment.

  7. “would likely put most readers of this blog on a SIS watch list…”

    what, you think they’re not?

  8. Wouldn’t the starting point be identifying what went wrong with our current terrorists and why it’s so easy to come into NZ and start your terror journey and recruit others without anyone detecting it on the visa before you come or monitor people after they arrive in terms of paying taxes and their gun/drug/ use?

NZ seems to spend so much time on developing more and more government counter terrorist group and committees which are ballooning (instead of just focusing on SIS and GCSB), but most don’t seem allowed to identify foreign threats due to wokism – in may cases they seem more like the extremist threats. “White settlers we are your worst nightmare” doesn’t seem to be a moderate viewpoint for an extremist government group.

Like Oranga Tamariki, we have Maori kids being returned to abusive caregivers while uplifting other Maori kids because of the cultural harm they may experience with pakeha foster parents that OT just put them with for years – then wondering why so many Maori kids suffer family violence and OT is widely considered to by dysfunctional (by the kids themselves). Kids in need don’t reach out to police when in trouble, police don’t notice dead bodies of kids/teens anymore and bodies are being found in burnt out cars, drums in empty state houses, suitcases and recycling centres.

Meanwhile as the committees explode, the planet burns – nobody does anything about the ‘hotspots’ of methane. Too busy trying to sell stuff to consumers.

The Earth Surface Mineral Dust Source Investigation (EMIT) identified more than 50 methane hotspots around the world.

  9. Less money spend on useless committees everywhere, and more money spent on recruiting and retaining and training REAL skills are needed in NZ.

What sort of country is NZ when every 5 minutes our planes are breaking down and our dignitaries hitch hike lifts all the time.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern’s plane breaks down in Antarctica – Italian aircraft comes to rescue
    https://thedailyblog.co.nz/2022/10/28/ummmm-the-new-sis-definitions-of-terrorist-would-probably-put-most-people-reading-this-blog-on-a-watch-list/#comment-689223

NZ’s big problem is that government ideology is obsessed with managers and committees and more and more of these exploding everywhere in NZ getting nothing done, while quietly the real skilled workers and experts with years of experience and proper qualifications are leaving such as aeronautical engineers and everyone else tired of it all.

There is no support for experts and highly skilled workers in NZ anymore – all funds are siphoned off into useless committees filled with extremists close to government on huge salaries while deciding that workers need to tighten their belts or that someone with 5 minutes experience can do the same job and are the recruitment answer and they are cheaper!!!!! Big pay rise of managers to work that out and save a few pennies – other countries can continue to support NZ getting from A to B, when everything breaks down and can’t be repaired.

  10. As the planet burns, more terrorists come to NZ, kids ram raid, drugs proliferate, professionals leave, our aircraft stop working, we also have our neoliberal ‘paid for’ degrees busted for what they are. Fakes. The new graduates from NZ universities and polytechnics are often ushered through with easy cheating that the government has known about for decades but made worse by firing off lecturers who care about standards.

Cheating scandal exposed: NZ university students paying Chinese company’s ghostwriters to write papers

Between our critical Indian workers/turned NZ citizens working in sham pizza jobs https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/new-zealand/2022/10/exploited-migrant-worker-awarded-nearly-100k-in-compensation.html and our Chinese students who pay Africans to write their uni papers, NZ needs to cut down on the new terrorist committees and go back to old fashioned SIS, GCSB, Policing and universities where expert lecturers decide who passes and are not fired for having standards.

NZ’s worst disasters and deaths are not from terrorism but from fake and poor building/resource consents aka CTV building https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CTV_Building /Pike river – using falsely qualified engineers and poor consents are ballooning in NZ and the engineering firms and councils hiring them are not being identified and censored.

    1. savenz. The university scams, and buying assignments, have been going on for years, but don’t forget that the universities may have become money spinners more than places of higher learning and the vc’s priority seems to be getting bums on seats. Dubbing oneself a Centre of Excellence doesn’t automatically confer excellence.

When university tutoring I had one dodgy student skirting at failing terms who produced an A grade assignment late, which I knew he couldn’t have written. Discussed it with the HOD, and had to give him a reasonable pass mark. About a year late I identified it as coming from the course notes of a few years previously. That same university provided, and possibly still does, a support group for Polynesian and Micronesian students where all written work was monitored and changed where necessary, before being submitted for marking. I discussed this with a member of the law faculty.

Many overseas students have a lot at stake, with wives or families supporting them back home and big fees paid to unscrupulous local agents. The meanest student activity was the cutting of pages out of reserved library books with razor blades. Easy to do if one reserves a study room.

      1. The issue is that the next generation of NZ educated workers are now cheats. Paying tertiary fees is equal for being expected to pass.

The students going into the wokeforce and can’t do the job they are paid to do, thus go into ‘management’, scale up and are soon running policy and going to networking events and being glorified, that does not work for anybody but scammers and fakers, anymore.

One of the reasons people don’t like working in NZ, is the unfairness of the workforce where the worst people are skyrocketing into promotions while the honest and professional go nowhere or are ‘restructured’.

There is a racial bent to everything now. I’m sure if they analyse the worksafe complaints for example they will find that Chinese and foreign owned or run companies operating in NZ, somehow never get the same fines or prosecution as others. From NZ waste management to Forestry. Like the wage subsidies this information should be publicly available as this will be the only way to achieve better outcomes.

Wokesafe are too busy prosecuting the White Island heroes as like Oranga Tamariki they are now too racially compromised to be safe to operate public safety.

  11. Thunk:
In the novel “Brave New World” by Aldous Huxley the government tries to prevent its people from speaking freely and thinking by giving them soma, a legal drug that is available for them every day.
Drugs in Brave New World and in the Present World

Haven’t read all about this but sounds interesting so give it as possibly useful to peruse.

    1. Greywarbler Soma arrived here with the advent of television, cemented latterly with the burning of books and the buying of the media. Fortuitously, television is now viewed mainly by the elderly in day rooms, and the already brain dead, and print media has been overtaken by electronic comms, hence Ardern advocating global censorship of freedom of speech at the UNO.

    1. James. Their doings will be shrouded in secrecy for reasons of ‘national security’, while the few remaining thinkers left here wonder how and why government got to redefine ‘ transparency’.

  12. Neil Roberts blew himself OUTSIDE the computer centre – not inside.

Also, while I get your sentiment, and agree largely with you, here’s what doesn’t help. Calling the Wellington protesters every name under the sun while saying you care about NZer’s mental health feels a bit rich to me.

It’s just more Sean Plunket, but in writing.
