‘Discarded like a dirty rag’: Chinese state media hails Trump’s cuts to Voice of America
Chinese state media has welcomed Donald Trump’s move to cut public funding for news outlets Voice of America and Radio Free Asia, which have long reported on authoritarian regimes.
The decision affects thousands of employees – some 1,300 staff have been put on paid leave at Voice Of America (VOA) alone since Friday’s executive order.
Critics have called the move a setback for democracy but Beijing’s state newspaper Global Times denounced VOA for its “appalling track record” in reporting on China and said it has “now been discarded by its own government like a dirty rag”.
The White House defended the move, saying it will “ensure that taxpayers are no longer on the hook for radical propaganda”.
Trump’s cuts target the US Agency for Global Media (USAGM), which is supported by Congress and funds the affected news outlets, such as VOA, Radio Free Asia (RFA) and Radio Free Europe.
They have won acclaim and international recognition for their reporting in places where press freedom is severely curtailed or non-existent, from China and Cambodia to Russia and North Korea.
To silence the voice of America, with 411million weekly listeners is an abomination to everything America once believed and built upon makes Trump a special kind of evil.
He has walked away from unipolar supremacy to Nuclear Powered Regional multipolar worlds.
He sees all the expense to maintain the global infrastructure of stability as a waste.
He wants Dictators and Kings to rule their own spheres, that’s why he is bullying Canada, Greenland and Panama, that’s why he’ll give Putin the Ukraine, that’s why he’ll deny Xi Taiwan.
He wants to be allies with Putin to take down China.
He wants to be a mad orange king in his own sandpit, with all the concentration of power and wealth he can amass, fuck the rest of the planet.
It’s an isolationist arrogance and privilege modeled by a narcissist who thinks God is on his side.
Trump has exploited working class resentment and used the undermeansch to empower the ubermensch. Musk and his Libertarian Billionaire pals all want to destroy the nation state to become regional warlords.
Since the failed assassination attempt Trump has believed he was saved by God.
That doesn’t have to be true he just needs to believe it is.
The difference between war crime and genocide tends to be the person committing the violence believing God is on their side.
He’s going to take risks and punts rational leaders wouldn’t, but if you believe a magical flying invisible wizard has your back, he will take risks that are too grave to risk in 4th first place.

It must be remembered that VOA was set up for political purposes. Despite its self-serving claims, it was never an altruistic organisation created to light the way of truth but rather it was to promote the US worldview.
