‘These Queers Bash Back’ protest at same Albert Park Band Rotunda this Sunday will be a test of tolerance

This is going to test things.
At the very same Band Rotunda in Albert Park made famous when Posie Parker was knocked around and chased off stage, Auckland’s queer community intend to stand up to recent Destiny Church abuse with their message ‘These Queers Bash Back’ which seems like a red flag to the Destiny Church bull.
My hope is that the community backlash at the appalling tactics used by Destiny has spooked Bishop Brian Tamaki and because he and his christofascist thugs are at heart cowards, they will hopefully ignore the provocation of the ‘These Queers Bash Back’.
It’s fascinating watching those in the Queer Community who were so instrumental in making the Trans debate so radioactive, as Dr Emmy Rakete was, leading the resistance to the very alienation they helped create.
This has all the ingredients of a very combustable mix.
I hope the Police are prepared and Destiny Church is asleep.

One can admire the defiance of the Queers–Destiny and Bishop Scamaki certainly need to be taken down a peg or five after their macho rough tough action on kids in a public Library! But…a violence arms race is ultimately futile as it can take many forms–a person in a wheel chair is never going to be right are they if arguments come down to physical stoushes–no, it is about organisation, numbers and wide support for your cause being developed in the community. Make Destiny pay tax and rates–that will largely fix the fuckers.
Having said that, protestors do need to take measures to defend themselves at all times against fascist types and develop personal safety tactics and equipment. And increasingly it is the state forces that are now offering squashing democratic rights and violence.

I would expect better from children… But at least it taught us one thing at least.. In as much as while the “Destructory church” has long since lost any real credibility with repeated breaches of common decency, and racist/bigoted diatribe in place of rational discourse, we have their “enemies” resorting to exactly the same behaviour, so we now know that thuggery isn’t just thought of as a heterosexual trait any more…
