There is no depression (or corruption) in NZ. We don’t know how lucky we are!

We never talk about what a fascist little police state NZ truly is.
The NZ Police grew out of the Mounted Constabulary who were a thug force put together to protect white settlers from unruly Māori at the edge of the settlement.
The unspoken deal was white settlers would turn a blind eye to their heavy handed tactics and that mentality has remained with a Police force with no true oversight.
We turn a blind eye to lots of things and hide that behind a laid back culture.
We never talk about the abuse of Māori and theft of their land.
We never talk about the cruelty NZ meted out to conscientious objectors during the war.
We never talk about the cruel laws against Unions and the police surveillance of Unionists, Communists and Leftists in NZ.
The NZ Police spied on ‘Newsquote’, The Vegetable Club, The Howard League for Penal Reform, The Esperanto Society, The Rationalist Society, The Council for Civil Liberties and the Nuclear Disarmament Movement.
We never, ever, ever talk about what a fascist little Police state NZ truly has been.
In 1943, NZs Ambassador to America, Sir George Laking, reflected on the surprising ability of the NZ Government to pass authoritarian powers against the citizens of NZ with little to no resistance from Kiwis by saying, “Much that was accomplished in those early years was possible only because of the absence of any detailed or sustained public interest in the issues”.
We have become experts in a hyper laid back culture of turning a blind eye.
Right now the NZ Police are gaining the powers of mass surveillance and there is no debate about that whatsoever…
Congestion charge bill passes: What does it mean for you?
A Government bill to bring in congestion charging passed its third reading in Parliament yesterday. Why is it happening – and how much could drivers end up paying?
Congestion pricing, or as it’s now often called, time-of-use charging, has been floated and debated for years between multiple governments.
If implemented, the scheme, already used overseas, could charge drivers a toll at busy times for motorists to enter a downtown area, or just target busy roads and corridors.
Momentum has built in the past several years across the current coalition Government and previous Labour government to introduce congestion charging.
…it was passed unanimously by our fuck-wit politicians.
It will punish poor people and the disabled, especially when public transport is a joke.
But most importantly it creates a mass surveillance state that the deep state spiders could never imagine possible. You will all have to have bugs in your cars tracking you, or facial recognition software and licence plate recognition, all being rammed through with zero debate what so fucking ever.
The Police scramble in the wake of the McSkimmings scandal to tell us it’s just a few bad apples and not a systemic problem.
There is no depression (or corruption) in NZ – we don’t know how lucky we are!
Hush now and pray for your house prices to rise.
Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.

That sheep looks brighter and more intelligent than most of us! And John Clarke poking his sly digs, had to go to Oz because he became swamped by Kiwis who could recognise his talents and wit and everything. Clarke and Dawe then made a splendid job of sending up Australians and so we are lucky that you are still here Martyn!
The front is falling off our country – help what should we do? Senator and reporter discuss this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3m5qxZm_JqM.
It is not talked about because both sidescof the political spectrum go along with the system as it is . Look how easy it was for Jacinda to close us down numerous times and using the army to enforce control and the same draconian forces have been used by Muldoon and other National leaders.
The facts are most of us lawabiding citizens thinks it makes us saver so we go along with the rules and let others fight back
Well don’t go along with the rules because they are there Trevor. You are always here and concerned, so put your mind to better rules and understand why we need them instead of taking the easy way and bleating about Jacinda for instance. We are small but we are a country and need to take the wider view than from the backyard.
Also put your back into keeping your regional councils and local ones and see if yiu can get them run by citizens who put founding money into local trusts that buy up local businesses and strategic food and water resources and have a shareholding that can never be sold out. Retired people like yourself can serve as watchdogs and encouragers of local business and young business people, and do much of the ‘paper’ work for honorariums that won’t affect their pension. Now that’s a mouthful, so chew on that for an idea.
Get more democracy by doing it ourselves instead of theory-trained proficients =- they are good at doing the theory, but we are good at living the practice. Let the livers in and maybe we can find citizen ways to cope with traffic, unreasonable prices for everything, and bring it all down to a human level of cost and enjoyment. Home sweet home is now bitter, why should it be? Work it out Trevor.
Big Brother is watching your every move with more and more cameras and a total invasion of our privacy. It’s clear the powers that be don’t give one hoot so long as they are totally in control. And it’s taken only two years to get to this – that’s the scary bit. Time our pathetic voters recognised the danger and our biased media highlighted the risks. It can’t be permitted to go on, or even God forbid, get any worse. Please voters, think about the future, not your wealth/power or your selfish selves but the future of your progenies and country. It’s not too late to begin again.
When I read 1984 many moons ago, the idea of Big Brother being able to listen in on everyone in the park, not just surveillance targets, seemed a bit far-fetched and here we are voluntarily taking the tracking device with us everywhere.
Not voluntarily. Where were the Greens in this issue? TPM? If they still exist. Don’t forget about the supermarket facial recognition tech that they now have even tho the privacy commission was apparently ‘concerned’ about it.
