MEDIAWATCH: Precious Journalists behind Paywalls shouldn’t throw RNZ rocks

Nothing is more gloriously tedious in the schoolyard of life than bitchy media companies playing Mean Girls with one another and then competing to virtue signal their outrage olympics as to who has been hurt the most.

Fairfax are requiring an emotional support peacock because RNZ has thrown shade at them, the NZ Herald editorial team is on suicide watch and The Temperance Union of Average Mummy Bloggers over at the Spinoff is triggered by the meanness of it all (while just checking there isn’t a NZ on Air contract that could sponsor Duncan Grieve’s new media podcast).

Wow, who knew snowflake journalists were so sensitive about being behind Paywalls propped up by advertorials? The Paywall over at the Herald has been wonderful, I don’t need to care about opinions behind that Paywall because most stock standard blogs have larger readerships than the Herald’s gated opinion community.

I appreciate what you will ask, how can I possibly live life without knowing how much Simon Wilson loves cycle lanes or how can I call it a day without knowing how much Lizzie Marvelly dislikes men or why bother waking up tomorrow if I can’t read the disjointed thoughts of David Cormack using something he’s been told over lunch at Bellamy’s to comprehend the world around me?

Oh and Matthew Hooton’s never ending justifications for moving the Port North and why the Labour Government are always 24 hours away from calling a snap election.

How do I survive without reading them?

Well, like 95% of the NZ media market, we manage.

Dear Twitter media elites, you already listen to RNZ – RNZ are trying to win an audience from knuckle-dragging Facebookers.

It’s marketing strawberries to pigs of course because the average Facebooker wouldn’t know quality journalism from an Infowar exclusive that shape changing reptilian aliens support white nationalism using 5G while proving 9/11 was an inside job.

Think of RNZs campaign on Facebook as a public service announcement for morons.

However listening to Fairfax and the Temperance Union of Average Mummy Bloggers over at the Spinoff lecture about journalism in the wake of their appalling sex assault smear story and the NZ Herald who ran with Whaleoil for years before they got busted is all a tad too much isn’t it?

No one cares, corporate media stopped being watchdogs a long time ago, so off you go and run some ‘news’ story about a twitter feud between Mums who have lunch box shamed each other.

  1. Considering they all recycle each other’s stories on Facebook (to a slightly lesser degree the awfully righteous woke newsroom and nausea inducing spin-off), I don’t think any can lay claim to journalistic superiority.
    People have lost trust in the trash media, it’s one of the reasons they panic buy toilet paper when someone is coughing next door – who to trust?

    We even had some media outlet get an expert on to tell us the toilet paper buying was “ moral panic” thus proving to those who know what moral panic actually is
    a) A fair percent of academic “experts” are idiots and don’t know what they are talking about and
    b) media misinformation is everywhere even in the articles put out to correct misinformation.
    So so much dumb

    The dreadful woke Spinoff with their average articles about reality Tv… those tedious predictable paywall Herald columns by Lizzie and co…. and yes, when is the Spinoff going to apologise for that appalling false sex scandal series?
    And please keep checking there is no more taxpayer funded Spinoff TV et al.

    1. They won’t apologise. They’ll just keep on churning out the hypersensitive outrage yoghurt (low-fat of course) until everyone’s vomiting semi-digested cottage cheese all over their shoes. They’re relying on the microscopic attention span of the average media consumer in this country to get away with their wheelbarrow-load of spurious crap.

      I used to read the Spin-Off semi-regularly. It was occasionally both informative and funny. Then it banned comments and embarked on a downward spiral that still hasn’t hit rock bottom. Now it’s the journalistic equivalent of a ‘woke’ police-state.

  4. It’s all kind of amusing really. I realise it’s not as though you don’t have reason to be pissed at RNZ Martyn – you most definately do, but they’re doing the best they can under the current junta.
    And what’s equally amusing is some dickhead (I think on The SPinoff) Kertin?? or Kerton?? …… arguing that the commercialisation of RNZ might not be such a bad thing. (self-interest much?)

  5. RNZ is now a migrant propaganda joke.
    Why did the government give them an extra 10 million?

    RNZ main agenda seems to be to destroy COL with bizarre articles that no longer resemble news but their new view of woke NZ?

    From running continuous stories about how all NZ immigration laws are racist as someone can’t get their boomer lover interest over to NZ fast enough, to how we need more migrant aged parents here who contributed nothing to NZ which the rest of NZ should pay for out of their welfare budgets, (while existing taxpayers should step aside and not even get a pension as they are too rich). Their rational seems to be advocating for the 1.5 billion Chinese and 1.5 billion Indians who are better for NZ in their eyes and deserve maximum entitlements here while having SFA obligations to meet to deserve it – just the grace of their presence for 5- 10 years….

    Then the RNZ stories of migrants who come to NZ and how racially abused they are here by coffee receipts or bullying from 15 years ago. (But funny enough, they just don’t want to leave, either),

    Another popular RNZ story is how the fake migrant job did not pan out and now person X,Y, Z now has their parents, wife and kids in NZ and are unemployed and paid $30k+ for the scam gone, wrong. Surely the unions will come to the rescue and make the government issue them a new visa, yippee they did!

    Likewise ACC is now being expected to pay the families of the cash jobs they do in NZ https://www.stuff.co.nz/business/118004926/family-of-migrant-worker-who-died-on-the-job-seeks-compensation. No mention of making every person in the chain that led to that death and importation of that cash migrant worker responsible for payment to the widow, and given a criminal conviction, appropriate sentence and deported if they are able to.

    Nope let the scam continue to bring in cash labour and make those doing it a fortune!

    Today I count online 3 stories on NZ First ‘scandal’ while not bothering to get too excited how the Natz do very similar things on donations, got more donations from similar overseas donors like Talleys and think that 2 Chinese are better than 2 Indians? Isn’t that the pinnacle of racial thinking that they purport to think is racist?

    The sad thing, is that RNZ didn’t to use to like this. It has happened in the last 2 years and seeking to lobby for more migrants who contribute nothing in NZ on the grounds of racism if they don’t get a visa here, while destroy COL who fall for their arguements and thus have some of the worst statistics to highlight in an election year.

    All so that their ideological partner, National can open the floodgates to more overseas donations, give NZ away to their new pals (now that the 1984 neoliberals are based overseas, in jail or retired,) and they have bankrupted their traditional allies the farmers, they need new donors and partners in crime.
