If only Nicola Willis was right and Labour has a list of secret taxes!

If only Nicola Willis was right. If only Labour really did have a secret list of taxes ready to take on wealth inequality in New Zealand, because God knows the mega-rich have had a free ride long enough.
Oh bullshit…
The Labour Party insists it did not mislead ratings agency Fitch by not telling the agency it planned to spend all the money it raised from its proposed capital gains tax – leaving no money left to reduce the deficit and debt levels.
National is accusing the party of misleading not just Fitch, but the country on its tax plans, alleging the party promises secret new taxes.
NZME
…IF ONLY NICOLA WAS RIGHT!
If only Labour had a secret list of taxes!
IF ONLY!
If only Labour had the spine to tax the rich
The wealth inequality New Zealand crisis isn’t creeping in — it’s already here. While the ultra-rich hoard unimaginable wealth, hundreds of thousands of Kiwis are struggling to eat. This isn’t bad luck. It’s design.
The Oligarchy Mordor is in the New Zealand Shire…
Giga-yachts, golden visas and the Gilded Age: The startling escalation of Kiwi wealth
It’s dubbed the new Gilded Age, a modern-day era of extraordinary wealth in which giga-yachts replace superyachts and the uber-rich search for even more startling ways to spend their money.
Stuff
…compare their obscene wealth to this reality…
The region now has the highest rate of food insecurity in the country, with a recent report showing 40% of households are struggling to afford enough to eat.
Stuff
…there are 170,000 kids in material hardship, 600,000 Kiwis rely on food banks each month and our public services have been hollowed out to allow neoliberal free market capitalism to dominate all.
Billionaires operate in a society that enables their wealth.
Don’t believe me?
Listen to a billionaire then, Steve Jobs…
“I didn’t invent the language or mathematics I used. I make little of my own food, none of my own clothes. Everything I do depends on other members of our species and the shoulders that we stand on.
…Billionaires stand upon the shoulders of a society and draw their wealth and power from that society with minimal obligations placed upon them. They have benefitted from an educated civil society but want to pay sweet f**k all for its upkeep!

In NZ the Mordor of Oligarchy has infected our Shire as well!
- The top 10% of New Zealanders own nearly 50% of all wealth.
- The bottom 50% share 6.7% ( $138 billion)
- The top 1% share 14% ($291 billion)
- The top 5% hold 34% ($707 billion)
- The top 10% hold 48% ($1 trillion)
- The top 50% hold 93% ($1.93 trillion)
- European/Pākehā New Zealanders hold substantially more wealth than Māori, Pacific and Asian groups
Look at how that money is donated politically:
-
Party donations concentrated at top incomes:
In recent elections, ~60% of total political donations came from businesses and individuals earning in the top tax brackets, while lower-income donors account for a small share. -
Lobbying prevalence:
Corporate and industry groups (banks, property developers, dairying sector) are among the most active lobbyists in Wellington, shaping tax, housing, and planning policy.
National: received over 50% of their donations from the property industry.
ACT: received approximately 32% of the property industry donations.
NZ First: Received approximately 12% of the property industry donations.
The Big Polluters, the Billionaire Class, the Corporates and the speculators own New Zealand politically!
Wealth inequality in New Zealand is political capture
If we want to build the social and physical infrastructure we need to radically adapt to the realities of catastrophic climate change, we need to tax the rich!
I’m not looking for socialism here folks, just basic garden variety regulated capitalism!

There are 14 billionaires in New Zealand plus 3,118 ultra-high net worth individuals, let’s start with them, then move onto the banks, then the property speculators, the climate change polluters and big industry.

You should be angry, New Zealand capitalism is a rigged trick for the rich and powerful. The real demarcation line of power in a western democracy is the 1% + their 9% enablers vs the 90% rest of us!
Do not allow their smears of ‘Envy’ dilute the righteous rage you should all be feeling!
There’s no point making workers pay more to rebuild our resilience, tax the rich!
- Sugar Tax
- Inheritance Tax
- Wealth Tax
- Financial Transactions Tax
- New top tax rate on people earning over $300,000 per year.
- Capital Gains Tax
- Windfall profit taxes
- First $10,000 tax free
Lift the tax yoke from the workers and the people and place it on the mega wealthy and have them pay their fair share for once!
If Labour had secret Taxes planned, I would know and I would be excitedly screaming to the rest of you that they will take it to the plutocracy myself!
Look, Chippy ain’t Marx, he’s a decent bugger who wouldn’t have embarked upon corporate welfare this Government has.
We will need the Greens, TOP and TPM for the tax policy, not Labour.

Willis’s interview on The Bradbury Group, once again, showed herself up for the simplistic thinking simple minded person that she is…with a smattering of trite immature childishness thrown in… she’s classless.
How Hooton could come to the conclusion that she gave a good interview is mind boggling and just shows how low the bar for perceived competence within the Coalition of Chaos has now been set….maybe he was being comparative re Luxon et al.
As is her transparent tactic she spent most the the time talking about what the oppostion is going to say as a way of trying to negate any criticsm of her own ill thought through failed decision making…in this case Chloe.
Chloe, of course, was crystal clear and across the detail shutting down Willis’s attempt at gas lighting.
As was Chris Hipkins this morning on TV Ones’ Breakfast Show when being interviewed by Tova O’Brien.
Willis had got herself on the show first to once again try and gaslight the public before the Hipkins interview. She did this by lying…didn’t work…as soon as Tova had all the correct detail from Hipkins she didn’t persue it any further simply because there was nothing more to persue.
Luxon is a useless shallow thinker..but Nikki- no-boats Willis is as equally useless and shallow….
But… sitting below both of them, in a
weird twist of incompetence, uselessness and hubristic vacuity is..Junk food school lunch couldn’t organise a pissup in a brewery Seymour.
N.Z. is in a parlous state.
I can only speak for Christchurch but the majority seem to have plenty of disposable cash .Last weekend was a holiday 3 day period 75 000 attended the new stadium and the overpriced food and drink sales were 50 percent more than budgeted. The mall car parks were jamed packed and there was not an empty bed in town . The Robbie Williams concert at between $250 and $ 650 is nearly sold out as is all the sport fixtures at the new stadium.
The World is going through a slump at the moment but as always thinks will improve . The government in power will be the one that most assists that recovery is the one we need to vote in in November. I believe that is the coalition group that have proved themselves not a new group that are far apart in their philosophy.
There is around half a million people in the wider Christchurch area so a full stadium along with the people visiting the region is not enough evidence to support your claim that the majority are still prosperous.
Trevor Trevor Trevor – are you really that naive. How about going to Sydenham, Aranui, Woolston and find out how many people went to the thugby and how many are going to Robbie Williams. I have seen plenty of poverty in the city. So why are you talking about a small privileged people in a city of 400,000. What is the percentage that went to these things at Te Kaha?
The majority in this city do not have plenty of disposable cash.
Yes read the article on Newsroom, saying Willis is what she is.
Well said Michal. Trevor is naive. If you drive Fendalton there’s lots of disposable cash. This government is fiscally bankrupt and if they were to be elected it would be like doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result. They cannot therefore be reelected.
Cool anecdote about a single event catering to cashed up followers of professional ball touchers there Trevor…
Meanwhile, in the real world;
“Food banks all around Christchurch have felt the impact of the crisis and are trying their best to continue working hard.”
https://metronews.co.nz/article/food-banks-demand/
“Rising fuel prices are already pushing families to the brink, with demand growing at food banks across North Canterbury.”
https://www.thepress.co.nz/nz-news/360991645/rising-fuel-prices-take-huge-bite-household-budgets
Nice try Trevor, but we’re actually talking about Nicky No-clues and her appalling economic “management”.
She is to blame for the credit rating downgrade alert.
No one else.
Trevor, I appreciate you have your own political perspectives but just a small challenge. How about spending a days volunteering at a local food bank, talk to the people.
I actually cook a meal at a support centre once a week and mentor those wanting to learn to cook
The Westminster System of governance and judiciary is the REAL rigged trick for the rich and powerful to become even more.
Conning people into voting for two sides of the same coin as if either side is going to make, or have made a difference is what society needs to wake up to.
Team Red with its self-serving cadre of cos playing characters arent gonna do shit to tax themselves into political oblivion, because they benefit the most from doing nothing but maintaining the status quo.
But hey, by all means cirizens, get out there every 3 years. Tick your box in the ideological popularity contest and feel secure you’ve done your bit. It’s all about your feels…
Team Red are the professional managerial class, who are staffing and managing NGOs, government departments, and academic departments.
These are not people who want to shrink the size of government servicwes but they also don’t want to pay a lot more taxes themselves to pay for it all.
Yes I agree Labour what the hell do they stand for, certainly not the working person. They are spineless when it comes to taxes.
One of the problems is that people think ticking the box is democracy. It never has been they have to be pushed and bullied to do the right thing for the majority.
Lets vote for the party that says we can and will have full employment. Of course this could happen but other than perhaps the Greens and Te Pati Maori no one believes this is a possibility. Of course if this had any chance of happening, the US, The world bank, the IMF would all interfere.
Wow, the blame game again! Willis’ accusations smack of ‘utter desperation’ from the CoC, bent NZ Herald and the ZB trolls! The incessant, never-ending Lies, BS and buffoonery is staggering. Again, that RW voters can’t recognise this manufactured “Clown Show” tells us their brains are too small and for them it’s all about ME! It’s worse than watching Trump’s self-inflicted shambles! So Willis needs to stop the CR&P and read Rob Campbell’s Newsroom article, including the comments, most of which are uncomplimentary to her. She is not up to the job and never has been. You are right, Martyn, NZ capitalism is a “rigged trick for the rich and powerful!”
All capitalism works in favour of those who already have most. It is a failed system. We should be following the Nordic countries who do not let the poor down. The more you have the more you get. It is a disgusting system.
