  1. My BIL was one of the few people who realised that Y2K was a nothing burger. He wrote about it and was mocked for it. But as it turned out he was correct. Most people didn’t take any precautions about Y2K because they hadn’t got a clue what to do – and yet nothing happened.

  2. I’m a bit sceptical about PQC, sure its a standard, but it’s been made for a tech that hasn’t fully been matured yet, let alone fully understand how it will work, so who knows if some of them will really hold up or just be security theatre when “Q day” comes.

Q day is the major driver for the current Quantum arms race between China and US at present. US is still leading, but with Trump dismantling Science, education and research funding in his ideological purge, that edge won’t last long. China has already gained ground and made Quantum research the priority in their last plenum, ahead of AI, where it was barely mentioned some years ago.

Quantum Computing will have a much bigger societal impact than AI when it comes imo, where quantum is the hardware and AI is the software and where it can do spooky complex predictive processing at near instantaneous speeds. This stuff is moving faster for people to get their heads around, let alone myself, maybe time to retire to the simple life of a goat herder.
