Green Party Calls For Cross-Party Support To Change Consent Laws Now
The Green Party is calling out National for walking away from cross-party support for improved consent law.
“Safety against sexual assault does not need to wait. There is cross-party support for a clear definition of consent, right now,” says Green Party Co-leader Marama Davidson.
“We all agree that consent means an affirmative and enthusiastic yes rather than the absence of a no”.
“If the National are so keen on safety of survivors, they can make it happen straight away with the Green Party and Labour.”
“National has had the opportunity to bypass the ballot and pass this Bill but they recently walked away from cross-party work to go ahead with their own Bill. They are delaying this important change and turning it into a false election issue.”
“We have an opportunity to make right immediately and not have to wait for another election to pass it.”
