As New Zealand gears up for a referendum on Cannabis, some of the ideas being floated right now look to re-victimise Māori. National are suggesting that only “fit and proper persons” should be allowed to grow legal cannabis. That means anyone with a criminal conviction won’t be allowed to benefit from a legal cannabis market.
Why should an industry that takes and takes and takes and seems to give so little back be allowed a free ride for so long? If the planet is running out of pristine places, than what we have should be set at a premium price.
Since when did a company that benefits from destroying rainforests while using child labour get to lecture the rest of us about masculinity?

We simply can not juggle multiple ideas that social policy must protect life over property, that teenagers do stupid things and that changing our chase policy – AS MANY OTHER COUNTRIES HAVE – to only chasing violent offenders is too much for your ordinary Kiwi to comprehend all at the same time.
