Govt’s first quarterly action plan for 2025 includes investor summit
Luxon said the “centrepiece” of the plan was an international investment summit, which aimed to bring together 100 of the world’s high-profile investors, business leaders, and construction companies from March 13 to 14.
“Attendance is by invitation only, and interest is so high that the summit is already oversubscribed,” Luxon said.
“As well as showcasing upcoming infrastructure opportunities for partnership and investment, the summit will highlight changes to policy, regulation, and legislation that make it easier to do business here, along with other investment opportunities in a range of growth sectors and the Māori economy.”
When asked which countries would be able to participate, Luxon said the summit would be “country agnostic”, with “very strong safeguards in place to protect our national interests”.
If you talk to National Party insiders, they are VERY excited about their Investment Summit in March.
To be honest, I’m genuinely surprised at their excitement.
I think they are confusing their excitement at hosting corporate events vs actual economic growth.
China was set to be a large part of this summit, but with a Chinese fleet currently doing live fire tests in the Tasman Sea, their inclusion is going to quickly become a festering sore.

National have put all the eggs in this one investment summit and are attempting to sell us prostituting ourselves to the global rich as a great way forward.
It isn’t.
National have confused their excitement for event management as an economic policy, when this falls over, as it will, what new rabbit do they intend to pull out of their hat?
All National have are Austerity Budgets that borrow billions for tax cuts while hollowing out public service budgets. They strangle the common good for their donors interests.

How does a invitation only event become oversubscribed?.
It probably means they sent out 1000 invites and are surprised that they got enough responses to fill 100 seats of which at least 20 will be team media from selected outlets.
I have already seen a backslapping opinion piece about this event in Herald this morning. It was blatantly a push for retaining Luxon as PM as well.

A Cook Islands style “investment” summit? Where the public have no say in the matter. Ultimate effect will be the same.
We’ll just hear the growth, growth, growth mantra from Luxon without the details of what is being flogged off, to whom, the incentives given, and the repercusions for NZ’s as we get milked for years to come.
