  1. No.
Our wages and infrastructure cannot bear your open borders.
The crazy thing is your self interested union stance aligns your wants with the neolib globalisation forces pushing wages down.
    We have people living cars.

  2. NO THANKS, Mike Treen, I have seem myself how new immigrants get exploited, but many also put up with it, because they themselves try to use short cuts and at times illegal steps to get a foot in the door to stay here.

If they do not get what they expect, they come and complain about racism, exploitation, and so forth, as long as the deals work for them, with whatsoever employer using them, they shut up and focus on just one thing PR.

So encouraging this (what you suggest) will lead to a flood of even more immigrants wanting to get a foot in the door, no matter what, so they can bring their parents, siblings and others here, into a country that is slowly but surely becoming unsustainable due to a too high population being created and allowed.

I think a fair few middle class Kiwis should get real and be prepared to get their own hands dirty, doing work they may not like, but that is necessary (and can still be paid well), rather than shy from such work and strive only for clean office jobs, for tertiary study and so forth.

It is the fact that some Kiwis rather have immigrants do unpleasant, difficult and challenging work, than they themselves do this, that we have the problem. Too many want to sit in high offices, be studied and command around new immigrants doing the REAL work.

We have a shit class system here, so address that first, and deal to your fellow Kiwis, that are not up to it, or cannot care, and want to enjoy a pleasant and good life while exploiting immigrants to enable this.

    1. It seems as if a good number of exploitative employers are themselves immigrants, running scams. We need to crack down on the corruption around work and student visas. No more letting the process out to agents.

  3. “They will have invested in creating homes in this country. Their kids will be going to school and made new friends and learned a new language. Just when people begin to get good at the jobs they have, form friendships and relationships, they are told they must leave.”

We hear stories of people paying thousands to simply get a visa to work here, and this corruption reaches deep, it goes into this corrupt country called NZ, which is one of the most corrupt ‘developed’ countries, but still, surprisingly, is rated one of the ‘least corrupt’ countries on the planet.

I have an Indian worker on such a visa stay with me, he owes his father 40k, lucky he did not get it from a debt dealer or bank, but he has this over his head, to pay off, while trying ALL to get a foot in the door, working for a Chorus subcontractor before, now for a telecom company in a call centre.

You may go on about rights and BS, the fact is, once you offer what you suggest, we will not have thousands, we will have hundreds of thousands come here and put up with anything to be exploited.

It is all about money, getting stuff paid for, and getting hands palmed, i.e. corrupted, and whatever else, to be allowed to stay here. And MANY Kiwis participate, this is a shit CORRUPT country, not the clean green BS place that some of you present.

    1. +1 Marc, especially

“You may go on about rights and BS, the fact is, once you offer what you suggest, we will not have thousands, we will have hundreds of thousands come here and put up with anything to be exploited.”

The pay off is to move their families to NZ, when they can then get free welfare, education and schooling for their families for subsequent generations.

Migrants also want the freedom and safety that we supposedly enjoy here, but what is not being said is that our Laissez faire immigration policy seems to be attracting more and more criminals and unstable people (Tarrent) to our shores… and de stabling the people already in NZ due to the high costs of living and low and insecure wages here.

So we are destroying the golden goose of NZ, for a few individuals and industries short term greed to get cheap labour.

We need SUSTAINABLE immigration not unsustainable greedy exploitative immigration which is what the political parties and unions and NZ LAW seem to be supporting for short gain, not long term future of NZ!

      1. When I say destabilising the locals – there has been 5 murders in the last couple of years relating to housing and homelessness…. has never happened before…

Most people will murder the easiest target to them… it is completely irresponsible to keen allowing more people to come into NZ in particular on open work permits, then their families, then more children, then the grandparents, marriages etc etc, and take up housing and creating such a shortage now, people are murdering over perceived grievances on their landlords, property managers or WINZ staff.

      2. When you replace people’s jobs for exploitable labour and let drug importers operate with free residency to boot in NZ, (even overseas teachers are allowed to import Meth, https://www.hcamag.com/nz/news/general/teacher-convicted-of-drug-smuggling-allowed-to-return-to-work/142209) you get more and more social problems!

“In one particularly affected region of the country, Hawke’s Bay – which has been described by the Children’s Commissioner as a land of milk and honey “somewhat literally” – the figures give pause for thought.

At June 2018, Hastings and Napier were the two ministry office sites throughout New Zealand with the highest numbers of individual children in state care.”

        https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/110952298/taken-from-the-land-of-milk-and-honey

As well as issuing more and more work permits to foreign nationals in NZ they can’t be bothered deporting anybody either and you just get a wet slap on the wrist if you are convicted of importing in drugs here as a foreign or new resident of NZ…

Motels become band-aid solution to housing crisis acutely felt in Hawke’s Bay

        https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/109860843/motels-become-bandaid-solution-to-housing-crisis-acutely-felt-in-hawkes-bay?rm=m

As people can no longer afford to live in Auckland due to the ground zero of the immigration Ponzi, the former residents of Auckland are then having to move to cheaper and cheaper areas… so the ripple continues and will continue because there is too many people coming into NZ in particular at the bottom end requiring cheap housing in particular and if they gain residency, then the Kiwis taxes are spend subsidising their wages, instead of improving social outcomes for existing residents. Housing should be given to those already living here and nobody allowed in, until the housing crisis is successfully sorted (because Kiwibuild/healthy homes is a dog so it might take the government another 2 years to find out, most people already know it will make things worse for housing shortages).

  4. No thanks, can’t support any scheme like this when we have Kiwis homeless and increasingly relying on food banks.

We also have environmental issues from having too many bodies in Auckland in particular, and more and more sewerage pumping into Auckland harbour (I believe the council applied for another 35 years of pumping sewerage into the sea) from overcrowding, while air and water pollution levels so high from congestion and it takes productivity away from the masses!

The reason unions are in decline, is that they used to call cheap labour being bought in to undercut workers as ‘scab’ labour, now they embrace them as the few people who will sign up to unions.

Thus unions themselves have changed their charter, from protecting local workers and increasing their rights to protecting migrant workers and increasing their rights. Unions failed to make a dent in Rogernomics and are now supporting neoliberalism via cheap overseas labour because otherwise they would have no members anymore.

    Money talks!

Also who is expected to pay for all the migrant minimum waged families kids going to schools and hospitals? We already have major shortages for the existing taxpayers and approx 5 million new residents and tourists per year!

So now the tax payers have to support Burger King’s profits because they are so crap they can’t attract and retain any local staff members and so the rest of the taxpayers pay for the schooling and health care of a minimum waged worker and their family????

If the fast food industry goes under in NZ it will be a public good! Bring it on and end obesity and poor food quality, we might free up some health care in Middlemore as less obese people are saved from a fast food diet!!!!

Something is wrong when the unions especially smart, educated, ethical people can’t see there is a disconnect here with unions supporting big business profits like Burger King while not caring the growing amount of poverty among NZ locals and how their taxes now pay for others such as Tarrent’s prison stays or subsidise Burger’s profits with subsidising cheap labour family members!!!!!

Note the person Burger King were caught underpaying was a NZ citizen apparently, they were careful to pay the migrants correctly! The fast food are trying to get rid of the Kiwi workers – they want the cheaper, more compliant non English speaking overseas labour.

“Antares Restaurant Group, the parent company which owns and operates Burger King in New Zealand, has been banned from hiring migrant workers for a year.

The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) put the company on its stand-down list for breaching the Minimum Wage Act. It is now banned from getting new visas for migrant workers until July 17 next year.

Unite Union welcomed the ban, saying it came after the fast food giant failed to pay a salaried manager the minimum wage.”

  5. https://www.radionz.co.nz/national/programmes/checkpoint/audio/2018681217/chinese-migrant-workers-we-ve-been-cheated

From what I can see $43,000 x 50 is a nice little earner for someone – over 2 million dollars and most of it profit!!! And there are hundreds of people doing it, legally here.

The people in the scam must have been wealthy to come up with $43k to work in NZ.

So who are the real victims?

The NZ workers who will not be able to find a house to rent, get a job and have their wages effectively put on hold, and now be visiting the food banks while our taxes go to more roads, hospitals and schools and housing, not for our own kids but to feed the above scams getting rich and middle classes of the world gaining them and their families residency and citizenship here!

They need to make every visa have a $50k price tag going to the government to pay for the social costs of each work visa, which in now born by NZ taxpayers for the profits of some shady characters!!!

And not allow open visas, and certainly NOT allow ‘piggy backing’ of families on the visas that the Kiwis have to pay for the social costs of, while the government brays about how middle NZ need to pay more taxes!

The best thing, is that people who can’t find work here, don’t get to come here in the first place so close the scam of the open work visas.

Also construction workers should be REQUIRED to pass a NZ course so they can be assessed to check they know what they are doing to a NZ standard and can speak English so they can operate safely on the work sites and understand the plans and criteria!

No wonder we have leaky building and most of our new houses now need remedial work within a few years, because there are NO standards and too many cow boys operating.
