Gun control advocates have breathed a sigh of relief after the coalition unveiled its long-awaited overhaul of the Arms Act.
The rewrite contains many changes, though most are relatively minor that either tweak or tighten existing gun regulations.
Associate Justice Minister Nicole McKee fought to widen access to military-style semi-automatic (MSSAs) firearms but failed.

ACT have utterly failed and been pushed right back on their desire to allow their gun nut fetishists access to their favourite machine gun of choice.

The Gun nutters put McKee into ACT and put enormous amounts of money into ACT coffers to change the laws so they could get their machine guns and this destruction of their cause means their attempts are over.
Their attempt to pretend fake stalking competitions would allow these machine guns back into the country was always a joke, and as ACT lose more political ground to NZF, their power gets weaker and weaker.
ACT have nothing to show for their time in office other than race baiting Universities, if they manage to pass the Regulatory Standards Bill, that has been promised to go as soon as labour take office.
This is an enormous blow to ACT and I’m loving every painful moment.

My dear old dad was what can be called a pot hunter.
He was not interested in trophies or killing for ‘sport’. Just out to get meat for his family.
When the freezer was empty he took his old 303( dated 1917) put three rounds of ammunition in his pocket and sallied off to the bush.
A day later he returned with a deer, or a pig, or a goat which we rendered into steaks, chops, mincemeat, sausages, edible offal.
I remember the visitor who asked him why he only took three rounds.
“Well I really only need one. I mean whatever I kill I have to carry out so there is no point in killing more. ‘
“I take three rounds because with this old, cheap, ammunition there is sometimes a dud cartridge.’
“But what if you miss your shot? What do you do then?’
‘Then we fucking go without meat. ….If I shoot and miss…. nothing that hears the shot is going to hang around so I might as well go home.’
So if dad could keep us fed with just one shot at a time I cannot understand how somebody needs twenty to thirty bullets at a time to go hunting. Pest destruction ..yes but how many people need firearms just for that?
