‘Rising threat of climate conflict with Christian Parenti’
https://www.rt.com/shows/on-contact/392886-global-climate-change-geopolitical/
“On this week’s episode of On Contact, Chris Hedges discusses the geopolitical consequences of global climate change with Professor Christian Parenti, author of Tropic of Chaos: Climate Change and the New Geography of Violence. Later, RT Correspondent Anya Parampil explores how this is increasing tensions between the global north and south.”
RB Christian appear to have a mix up with poppy production. Taliban practically wiped it out but after US invasion it appears record crops are grown and traded through US supported agencies.
Is he gate keeping and if so what other US interests is he protecting.
His basic assertions about neoliberalism and economic strangulation of Govts have a wealth of supporting evidence.
Commercial extraction of CO2 from the atmosphere is a well thrashed red herring typically thrown into the argument to give hope and distraction when it is not possible for many reasons economic, political and the resource availability plus energy intensive processes like this are counter productive. Secure storage of harvested CO2 in quantities needed to make a difference is not possible.
A good read Philip – thanks for posting.
The line I thought resonated most – applying to a lot of things – was this one.
“it’s the people we serve that unfortunately suffer from government cuts.”
Really powerful piece of writing by a London firefighter who attended the Grenfell Tower fire. He or she manages to combine a really moving story of what it was like fighting the fire, the impact of the destruction and deaths on firefighters and the problems of cuts to the fire service, issues of pay and conditions. This deserves publication in a ‘mainstream ‘ newspaper – it certainly deserves a really wide readership:
