  1. The rising number who can’t get enough hours of paid work calls into question once again the basis of the In Work Tax Credit. This payment for children is conditional on rigid hours of work being met- it doesn’t work as a work incentive when the work is not there. It isn’t even a work incentive that works well in ideal conditions. When is Labour going to publicly acknowledge that this discriminatory policy has caused unnecessary hardship for many families and pledge to fix it. Parents and their children shouldn’t be punished for the poor state of the labour market
