Nicola Willis promising more job losses in mutilated public service

Nicola Willis public service cuts are being sold as βefficiencyβ, but for many workers it looks like another round of ideological austerity aimed at shrinking the State regardless of whether New Zealand actually has the capacity to handle future economic, climate or social shocks.
Finance minister hints at government department amalgamation plans
The finance minister is set to reveal proposals to reduce the number of government agencies, by telling ministries and departments to come up with plans for amalgamation.
RNZ understands Nicola Willis will set out three proposals on Tuesday afternoon to create efficiencies in the public service, including amalgamating government agencies, more work on digitisation and using AI, and setting a target to reduce the public service headcount to 1% of the total population by 2029.
Willis will reveal further details in a pre-Budget speech to Business North Harbour.
On Monday evening, she told Newstalk ZB’s Heather du Plessis-Allan the government would be taking the approach of asking the public service to come back with options on “logical” mergers.
That is ideological vandalism, thatβs not an actual plan!
The pandemic proved why strong public institutions matter
COVID showed us the need for a strong State with capacity to step in and with the climate crisis here, we will continue to need a strong State with capacity!
The Rightβs never ending march to amputate and slice down the State is so that the people donβt get used to a well functioning public service and so will politically agree to starve it of funds via tax cuts.
Global free market capitalism is dead, hyper regionalism is here. We need a bigger State with actual capacity rather than the threadbare barely regulated joke that it currently is.
We shouldnβt agree to cutting public services, we should fund their capacity and infrastructure rebuild while making the working conditions for those there a better quality!
Where should we get that money? Windfall taxes on the corporations and banks!
We need better conditions for those workers and the values of working 4-day weeks, extra holidays and housing solutions are aimed at making better working conditions as opposed to never ending inflationary wage pressures.
We need a sustainable bureaucracy rather than seven figure technocrats who see their own fiefdoms and glass palaces as the measure of public policy achievements.
New Zealandβs austerity obsession is colliding with reality
The 40-year neoliberal experiment in New Zealand cut the State back to the bone and the political project of the Right ever since is to tax-cut starve off revenue for the State so it canβt redistribute it in the first place.
With the economic recession, the geopolitical shockwaves and catastrophic climate change upon us, we must have a debate about the capacity of the State!
We need more doctors, more nurses, more teachers, more Police, more State houses, more infrastructure not less!
We donβt have the capacity to create a functioning State that lives up to our expectations in a liberal progressive democracy because we wonβt tax the rich to fund that infrastructure!

How much does the stupid woman think it is going to cost to have the whole public service run by robots .More money for her off shore mates in the tech industry .And what will happen when it turns to shit and the robots go tropo and all of our cash is taken by them and sent to the USA Atlas network .Once this starts it can never be controled because the robots will be making all of the choices .
so now she is going to inject every department with some of her wegovy
Sources are saying that itβs possible No Boats is considering axing the winter energy payment from super beneficiaries living in tents as they have no use for power.
Aaaaah….?
Please bare with.
“Where should we get that money? Windfall taxes on the corporations and banks!” Or? A public, royal commission of inquiry up and into the corporations and their relationships with the banksters, now australian owned.
Can I ask? Where do you think those corporations and banks get the money from in the first place?
Yes! You’re correct! Tourists!
” We need a sustainable bureaucracy ” What does that even mean? We just need a bureaucracy that does its fucking job and that is, by us for us.
“The 40 year neoliberal experiment in NZ …” The 40 year neoliberal experiment in NZ wasn’t a fucking experiment, it was a blatant con job. We. Were. Swindled. Roger and his ugly mafia simply stumped in, stole our shit, then stumped off again.
The ‘Thems’ saw agrarian exports booming which created vast wealth which should have returned to the tiny population who farmed it then have that money redistributed through normal, honest avenues to the rest of you but instead that money was deviously and cunningly *side-swiped into urban, privateer pockets, an even tinier tiny population of rich, cunning bludgers feasting off our primary-economy generating farmers by simply lying, stealing, misappropriating, hiding, burying, sequestering and syphoning-off. Then politically corrupt fiscal architects designed perfect hiding places for money that was never theirs. Like the Cook Island. Heard of? Winnie Peters has, funny that. Just ask him? He’ll tell ya straight.
Now. Today. There’s the MSM, our MSM, a crooked, boring, morass of Feebles fawning below and before their political mistresses and masters who’s expertise in demonising, humiliating, denigrating and trivialising on behalf of those scant few who launder the origins of our wealth to then be stolen. Candy from a Baby, you know who it goes. Then, that money from those enterprises is laundered through a morally corrupt gangster clan of ‘ banking and finance’ .
But you can tell the young people of that today and they’ll not believe ya.
Lets send more people we have educated off shore to work for double what they earn now is government policy
The cunning plan is to get these economic refugees to start sending remittances back to feed their whanau and boost our foreign exchange earnings. Think of the prosperity, the ability to go and purchase another blanket for the tent.
A second blanket?! That’s a little excessive isn’t it? Next you’ll be wanting nutritious food, electricity, running water, and a government that doesn’t clearly hate you. Folk are so entitled these days.
Let’s start with these:
1. No more list MPs.
2. One specialist list appointee per party. Eg…finance or sport.
3. No more unelected officials anywhere on any council.
4. Cut out 4 layers of middle mangement.
5. Any beaurocrat not implementing policy of current govt is fired.
6. No more govt company cars to commute to work.
7. Cut MPs to half…60 or 70.
8. Move parliament to hamilton…it’ll be cheaper.
9. No salary increases unless ecinony ahows growth.
10. No more DEI appointments.
No more associate ministers, make the existing ministers do all the work and that will assist with savings as well as getting rid of their arrogance.
Yes good one
I like the no company cars axing and add chauffeur driven vehicles. Make ministers fund their own vehicle use then see excise tax change.
Tell me you know nothing about governance, management or the public service without telling me that you know nothing about governance, management or the public service.
Those are some dumb ideas buddy.
Importing hordes of opportunistic economic foreigners will offset that though surely
