No need for bill protecting campus free speech, unis and legal experts say

Universities and legal experts say there is no need for a bill protecting free speech on campus.

But the legislation’s supporters say universities can’t be trusted to uphold freedom of expression.

Parliament’s Education and Workforce Select Committee has been hearing submissions on the Education and Training Amendment Bill (No. 2). If passed, it would require universities to develop a freedom of expression statement and complaints procedure, and report annually on it.

The Law Society told the committee the bill created “needless complexity” because freedom of expression was already protected by law.

The hilarity of a white South African lecturing the rest of us about hate speech is funny enough, but watching them try to force Universities to agree to their free speech definitions is even funnier.

Massey University backs down from controversial ‘feminist’ event

Massey University has backed down from hosting a controversial feminist event following threats it could loose its Rainbow Tick if it went ahead.

The event, organised by a group called Speak Up 4 Women, sparked fury among the rainbow community for being anti gender self-identification on birth certificates and the inclusion of transgender women in women’s sport.

One of the speakers of the event was going to be Canadian blogger Meghan Murphy, who had been banned from Twitter for violating its hateful conduct policy.

Though the university last month said it did not share the views of the speakers of Feminism 2020, until today it was planned to still go ahead at the Wellington campus in November.

Now, the university says it has advised Speak Up For Women to find an alternative venue for its Feminism 2020 event.

…so let’s not pretend that woke censorship wasn’t a real problem – it was!

Universities have a solemn obligation to be spaces where debate on contentious issues can occur, that the woke managed to cleanse anything their pretty little brains couldn’t cope with should shame us all, especially as it has allowed fucking arseholes like The Zionist apologist astroturf Atlas Network supported fake union to gain leverage.

So Universities should lean into protecting Free Speech and find a way that protects criticism of Israel, because that’s where this is all going.
