Mike King’s mental health charity I Am Hope is being accused of greenwashing after handing out a pamphlet to children presenting a trucking company and a coal-burning electricity company as climate heroes.
A parent of a Wellington child who was given the pamphlet says she was concerned and disappointed when her child brought home the “grey and dystopian” booklet, which features a truck owned by trucking firm TR Group and Genesis Energy – one of New Zealand’s biggest coal users – helping a little boy who is experiencing anxiety about climate change.
The booklet is called TR and Mack, Genesis for a New Tomorrow.

…I have defended Gumboot Fridays because it can provide immediate counselling rather than the 6 weeks to see someone, and because Mike is out there at Suicide Funerals supporting whanau while many of his critics are cosy at home, but this bullshit book he’s handing out to counter ‘climate anxiety’ when the book is drenched in promoting climate polluters is like getting Trump to be your Intimacy Coach, or Ronald McDonald to be your nutritionist or the IDF winning the Nobel Peace prize.

This greenwashing bullshit feels like a grift and Gumboot Fridays are exploiting legitimate climate anxiety with polluters who are causing that climate anxiety.
I have been a defender of Mike King, but there’s no way I can defend this greenwashing bullshit.
My advice to parents and young people who get this book, burn it because that will do more against climate change than reading it.

It actually is at the base of all our problems in NZAO and if you could define the problem clearly and succinctly, develop a strategy that ticks all the woke boxes and the unwoke ones as well, you would be a chiefly, great leader who would lead us out of the wilderness.
There’s a lot of people that feel anxiety over pollution and climate change, a lot of people, but in the face of wokeness, that does not matter. This is the beauty of wokeness, it exists to cancel the real problem at hand. ‘Wokewashing’, coming to a concern near you!
