Winston softens NZ up for AUKUS hardware buy up as he swaps our Independent Foreign Policy for 3 Magic Military Industrial Complex Beans
Very defensive and grumpy speech by Winston as he continues to soften NZ up on why he’s traded our Independent Foreign Policy to the American Military Industrial Complex for 3 Magic Beans.
Explaining why we would allow America to build a Submarine base in Northland might be a hard sell to a country that last hosted American troops in World War Two.
The recently passed massive US Military Aid Bill has a large budget for building bases around the South Pacific as the drums for war beat across the Indo-China theatre.
Winston loves America almost as much as he loves himself, so entrusting Lange’s Legacy to him is a bit Fox in the Hen House wearing a large chicken costume armed with a submachine gun for me.
What was interesting is he seemed to hold up the $3.5billion for Military hardware and suggest they should be replaced with a new deal that ensures our equipment is compatible with AUKUS forces.
Now that was a surprising comment because as far as I can see we are already on the hook for that equipment, is Winston suggesting we dump that cost, freeing up Billions for National and he’s going to get us some sweet heart deal on some AUKUS toys?
If he is, wouldn’t that compatibility expect some blind loyalty in times of conflict?
Wouldn’t that be the very killing off of an Independent Foreign Policy?
Winston’s tone sounded like it was shaped by the TVNZ Poll. All the assertions the Right have convinced themselves of since the election have all be challenged in the last 72 hours since the Poll release and Winston is testing out how attached NZ is to its Independent Foreign Policy.
He is no fool, Helen Clark has enormous respect and when she is directly criticising your position, you back off.
