Nicola Willis, who would become New Zealand’s next finance minister if her National Party wins the October election, said she would resign if her party fails to deliver the income tax cuts it has promised.
“If we didn’t deliver tax reduction, yes I would resign,” Willis told TVNZ’s Breakfast Friday in Wellington. “We are making a commitment to the New Zealand people and we intend to keep it.”

It got worse, she was claiming Kiwis don’t want to see the costings on their Foreign Buyers Tax, when we all actually do want to see how she intends to carry out a tax cut that benefits rich landlords at the cost of poor kiwis!
It’s like National aren’t arguing for trickle down, they are arguing for trickle up where the poor pay for the rich!
National are lying directly faces and know they can because you won’t hold them accountable because you still hate Jacinda so much!

National promise to give Slumlords the right to evict while throwing state tenants onto the streets while opening up the flood gates to migrant labour exploitation and lazy immigration to cause immense market stress on renters but push up house prices for the land owning class.
National manage to camouflage lifting the ban on foreign speculators pricing the next generation of kiwis out of home ownership by making it a tax debate which is a farce because none of National’s math even stacks up!
National promise rich landlords a $250 per fortnight tax cut by robbing 2 year olds, mutilating public transport and literally stealing money from climate change funds.
National get elected and raise GST (something they haven’t even campaigned on) and allow the speculators in but it doesn’t generate the revenue and of course National will ‘balance’ that tax cut for the rich landlords by cutting back on public services.
The predictability of the tsunami of privatisation and crony capitalism coming this way if National and ACT win because the electorate are still raging about co-governance, 3 waters and Covid will be a self inflicted tragedy for this country.

The audience at the debate in Queenstown last night, which was full of National and Act supporters, fell deathly silent when Willis talked about her loopy ideas.
You would have thought they would have been throwing hats and babies in the air ….but no!!…nothing…
Robertson and Shaw were the one’s that were engaging the crowd with their deep understanding and explanations of economics…everyone was leaning forward when they spoke…. not Willis or Seymour …who in the end just tried to be the clown …that he is.
Damien O’Connor was equally impressive at the rural debate, silencing the crowd with his depth of knowledge….. the others were left floundering around trotting out their same old cliches…

I doubt Seymour wants to be finance minister because it would tie him up too much in the day to day detail.
National’s focus is typically in balancing the books and opening up the economy to growth, whereas ACT’s is in sorting out the racialization of government. I see him and the ‘Minister of Closing Down Useless Ministries’ and ‘Minister of Constitutional Development’. Something that will take us forward rather than looking back to 1840 as we are now. Exactly how he intends to unpick the mess we find ourselves in is above my pay grade.

Too often in the past National MPs have ”promised” almost like a IBS to resign but never do. Mainly possibly because the pay packet and perks of the job is something they just “cannot go without’. They love the pay packet just as much as they love the perks of the job. They love being pursued by the media even when in a limo and chased by three journalists. It’s something of a Power Trip for them. If you asked one National MP to resign and go onto the same pay level as a beneficiary you may as well expect them to do a previous National MP action and claim she could survive on the equivalent of the DPB as it was at the time. Afterwards it turned out her ‘doctors’ told her she couldn’t survive on the equivalent of the DPB and she just had to return back to her wonderful pay packet and perks of the job.
