Rugby league: Three Sea Eagles players reportedly backflip on pride jersey boycott
A trio of Manly Sea Eagles footballers have reportedly backflipped on their decision to boycott the club’s pride jersey for this week’s NRL match against the Sydney Roosters.
Seven players sensationally stood down after the club announced the pride jersey – featuring rainbow stripes and trim – would be worn as a one-off this week.
Jason Saab, Josh Schuster, Haumole Olakau’atu, Tolutau Koula and New Zealanders Josh Aloiai, Toafofoa Sipley and Christian Tuipulotu were reportedly opposed to wearing the jersey due to their religious beliefs.
But after Manly held an emergency meeting with the players in question on Monday evening, at least three Manly footballers have changed their mind and are now considering wearing the pride jersey this weekend, according to 7News.
Ok, firstly it seems eye rolling that they didn’t clear this with their very religious players, like it or not, there is a a huge chunk of players who are religious and getting them on side voluntarily seems more important than forcing them to.
That aside, I have very little time for people who believe in a magical flying invisible wizard for their day to day decisions, especially when those people don’t seem to understand their own religion.
Where do these religious Rugby boofheads get off drawing the line at rainbow inclusivity as the thing that angers their God when the bloody jersey is a walking poster for Gambling?

…there’s barely any mention against homosexuality in the Bible but shit loads about allowing money to over take your existence.
Watching religious rugby players justify not wearing a pride jersey for a game while wearing a gambling jersey every other game seems a tad twee.

Quite frankly, these bible bashers should find another team to play for if they hate Pride so much because a dead Palestinian carpenter told them to. I would have fired them long ago if it was up to me. Homophobia has no place in sport.

Boycott is the lowest form of protest. The rest of Australia is doing well. Queensland teachers earn an average of $130k thanks to The State Government. That’s not for principles or other seat warmers. That’s for all teachers. No one will care of you destroy your own career.
I think those passages relate to money in general. Isn’t it inconvenient for all those loaded people that profess to have Christian faith. Clearly they pick and choose what parts of the bible suit their narrative. Much like the New versus Old Testament. Clearly some books were not helpful to those in charge.

This is just old religion which has its bigotry but also it’s forgiveness and love of its fellow man, vs the new religion of “progressive” liberalism and the woke diversity industry which has its bigotry and none of the forgiveness or love of it’s fellow man.

Most do NOT want anything to do with it, let alone be DEFIND by it! Gay bars, dating apps and bathhouses are hotbeds for drugs, alcohol and risky sex.
There is a celebration of multiple/mass sexual partners, the inhalation and popularization of amyl-nitrate and meth as sex enhancers. The exploitation and sexualization of young gay males is rife. Unprotected sex is viewed as a fetish.
Vapid obsession with materialism is rife and many sexual practices/fetishes are promoted which denigrate (especially youth) over time.

So if they DO NOT want to wear a “Pride Shirt”, they should NOT be forced to – the vast majority of same-sex-attracted people agree!
Martyn, those biblical texts do not specifically mention gambling, which involves putting down stake money, making a bet or wager, and either losing your stake or making a profitable win. None of that is mentioned;
The texts given all warn against making money your major concern in life.
Gambling can be such a healthy pleasure, as long as money is not your major concern!

I suggested at work, that I’m now waiting on a footy team wearing a pacific island jersey in support of the island’s devastated by the volcano erupting in Tonga. Or how about one supporting the aboriginal peoples.
Didn’t go down well with a couple of woke middle class whites, so I asked why brown people are only considered when we are good at footy, or when china wants to build a military base on our island.
These same white people come to our islands for a holiday, looking to get drunk do drugs and have sex with our young ones and give them diseases. The disrespect us and then have a cry when they get in trouble.

the fact they play for a club that is sponsored by one largest and most predatory online betting agencies, and that club has a long history of corrupt and illegal financial practices, and many off field scandals, including gang rape, seems to have gone right over their heads.
but hey, i can see in the future that sporting contracts with these players will be worded very carefully. and boy, they better not fuck uo off field, ’cause damn do the Australian sporting press love to beat on folks with different world views of the sports writers.
Even the petrol heads (and I follow the V8 series) over at Repco V8 Supercars had an indigenous round at Darwin recently where all the car wraps incorporated indigenous art and design work and various functions and displays were incorporated into the weekend entertainment.
For any League or other professional sports team to allow “poofter bashing” in 2022 is just not on.
