  1. The policies so far released by Labour and Greens has nothing to attract NZF or Act to change their vote from 2023. National have done well in controlling a 3 party coalition and if the economy continues improving then why would you change horses . Unless there is an event that rocks the government then I see another 3 years at the helm .

    1. They Shoot Horses don’t they so best to put the lame bluey black one with the yellow fever out of its misery

  2. Bugger Me. That’s included just about everyone I seem to know these days, some more than once.

Maybe I should get out more.

    1. Whatever you do UBR keep coming here regularly and updating us on your latest. I like your style and your thinking is interesting and direct.

    2. You’re fine UBR.
We have to rub shoulders with them but no reason why we can’t try to quietly sway them our way.
I have been pleasantly surprised lately that some are changing their minds a bit, but that has to translate into votes. Point out that voting against their own best interests is pretty silly. That’s what the MAGA did and they are reaping the pain now.

  3. Martyn, I wish I could turn away from the AH’s you are describing under your 9 red flags – well said! However it is clear that there are too many people doing “very well” sucking the life out of our lovely NZ. They will not stop until there is nothing left and will then move on to greener pastures? For those of you who cannot “get” the enormity of the perilous state NZ is in, you need to wake up before it’s too late. If you truly care and wish to reclaim NZ, as we once knew it, then vote – not with your feet – but with your brain in tact. You must all see that our main issues now are: Greed, Vanity, Arrogance, Aggression and Laziness. If you have any or all of these traits you can never move on unless you make a concerted decision to do so – you will be completely “stuck”.

    1. Typical of lefty to be disappointed that toomany are doing well. Doubt less these are the hard working business owners that you you dispise.

      1. Trevor You reveal your limited outlook. Life isn’t about business, that is what Trump would think and now see where he is and what he is or maybe you can’t see clearly. Only through a glass darkly.
When we are born we only live with our mother’s help and we need care, and love is a help to a child, but later we need to grow up ready to pass on those good things to others. The theme we need to live by – pass the parcel of goodies, ring a ring a’roses or we all fall down. (I put that in to make you laugh probably derisively.) You are probably too thick to get the analogy or example of how important things are portrayed in fairy tales and songs.

  4. ” Remember, there are some people who are simply too far gone to reach, and your emotional energy needs to be spent on recruiting the reasonable in Election 2026, not engaging with the demented ”

Add the large section of sleepy, detached apathetic hobbits to the list and all those so cynical and disgusted with the current direction of their country they have simply turned away powerless to do anything.

Real change starts with debate and acknowledging we are in trouble and considering alternatives but we can’t even do that any longer.

The whole process of reasonable debate seems lost apart from the likes of the Bradbury group , and commentators like Bryan Bruce , Hickey and a small number of others.

Its going to come down to the barest numbers in the parliament where the current unpopular regime will hold on and continue to misuse power and implement the Atlas doctrine unless National MP’s stop it.

    1. I don’t believe debate is enough KB, not first but definitely needed in the long run. First is a daring move to appraise where NZAO is going, been, and changed since the 20th century as many are still fixed in the outlook they had then. Even us here, it is so hard to find a balanced critique to our reality and our beliefs.

Climate change has removed most of our options, a financial system that was always skewed but kept under some control by governments that had some value scheme, now cravenly bowed to accumulated milk tokens being what money is; an exchange system that can advance projects by investing in a good idea for the future which would otherwise never be done. So makes for growth of projects, and if kept in balance brings in the multiplier. and is good for everyone. But has got out of balance and into vice, finally using war and armaments as growth and profit centers.

Values have given way to systems; a pie-in-the-sky idea (that’s why the move is into space!) and there isn’t much humour in it, except to laugh at the pretensions of people laden with values, or ideas have (Greens. MeToos etc) and the finality of ‘I’m Sorted’. answers every query or concern.

Thinking people have to look at what is needed by good-living, working, sustainable-based and happy people, less, fewer laws and rules but more consideration for our own and others needs. I thought this morning how to sum up the situation in a few words – instead of a ‘democracy we have a ‘hypocrisy’.* And that has been the case for yonks. We can’t have a democracy for just one generation, and then leave the running of it completely to public servants and politicians, but have to work at it all the time ourselves, checking whether we have what I’ve mentioned above – what is needed by good-living, working and happy people.

I have read a lot of history of the people of late years, how it was for fighters in wars, what has gone on in past centuries, survivors of terrible times, what philosophers have thought and revealed. And a date to remember is the day that John F. Kennedy was shot, as on that date, thinkers Aldous Huxley died, also C.S.Lewis. Was that the end of Camelot? But there is hope, at present you can still hear and see them on the net and get a view of their thinking which would be of value.

I have been reading an old newspaper found at the bottom of a carton and a comment there on the experiences abroad of a Kiwi when young. He was surprised at the careless behaviour, risky, even criminal, of young men when away from their own country, doing ‘thoughtless and potentially life-ruining things’. These included drug trafficking, drug taking, gold smuggling, unprotected sex with complete strangers, fights with gangsters, deranged driving, and nude karaoke. Interestingly most of the people [doing this] were Americans. And so would be middle class from this rich country with pretensions of grandeur and the belief they could do and have, whatever they felt like. We see this now in most middle class people, with severe narrow individuality traits. And Trump would be the leading exponent.

  5. I also add those who inquire ones COVID Vax status then give you a breathless 10 minute tirade about the stupidity and naivety of sheeple and how they don’t want to exchange bodily fluids with anyone vaxed and it’s all because Helen Clarke was a lesbian in cohoots with Hillary Clinton, George Soros and the Alpha Draconis royal family.

But I do find it useful how they announce they are effing lunatics straight up.

  6. UBR So very refreshing reading your take on things. You speak? for many of us.
One wonders about the bodily fluids exchange but perhaps its is better not to do so.
