Tamatha’s crime was to challenge the slavish police worship culture of NZ, remember the VERY FIRST editorial that the NZ Herald ran with was calling white settlers to go to war with Mฤori.
I think NZ has a cultural hangover from our settler days.
The NZ Police Force grew out of the Mounted Constabulary, a thug ย force who was ostensibly put together to go bash the bejesus out of drunk Mฤori at the edge of the settlement.
The unspoken deal between white settler NZ and the Mounted Constabulary was, โwe will turn a blind eye to whatever heavy handed tactics you want to use, as long as you make us feel safeโ.
That mindset of turning a blind eye to Police tactics to protect us from our fears of the things that go bump in the night has extended all the way from our settler culture to today.
I have been banging on for decades now that the IPCA simply does not have the investigative powers, the resources or the legislative structure to provide appropriate oversight of the NZ Police, (criticisms I might add that have been responded to as sacrilege and heresy for most of the time I have been making them), well after McSkimmings and all that has been revealed there, it seems like most rational people now see the enormous need for an Independent guard dog against Police corruption.
In 1943, NZs Ambassador to America, Sir George Laking, reflected on the surprising ability of the NZ Government to pass authoritarian powers against the citizens of NZ with little to no resistance from Kiwis by saying, โMuch that was accomplished in those early years was possible only because of the absence of any detailed or sustained public interest in the issuesโ.
We have become experts in a hyper laid back culture of turning a blind eye.
Remember โ there is no depression in NZ, or corruption and we donโt know how lucky we are.

What I observe about the mainstream NZ media and National especially is how Misogynistic They All Bloody Are.
The Misogynistic Lot just don’t like a young Up and Coming Female especially a Maori one at that being so vocal and in condemnation as to that Unquestioned of Authority called the NZ Police.
We have seen and many probably have witnessed the almost Corruption of a Police force we were all bought up to respect and admire and depend upon.
I have a friend in the NZ Police and she has my total admiration and respect. Sadly enough however it does appear that whilst she works a hard day there are those in more senior rolls that have taken advantage of their positions and used it for Self Gain. They give the NZ Police a bad reputation.
Audrey Young is a Life-Long National Party supporter and crudely enough an A*se Licker for National. She will never question National because she is too Brainwashed probably since birth to ever think Outside of the Reclusive Belief System that is National Party. She looks at the Party through Blue-rinsed Glasses that are like those Blinkers used on horses. National can never do anything wrong in the Narrow Minded Realm of the Young Family.
It is fortunate I do not bother with the tabloid NZ herald rag because of its biased attitude towards National. And the hard-copy paper, when I can get the herald for free, is often used to clean up my cat’s kitty litter.
