Minister Simeon Brown sets Health NZ ‘efficiency targets’ of $500m
Hospitals and public health services across the country have been asked to find more than half-a-billion dollars in “efficiencies” to re-invest in patient care.
In a response to written parliamentary questions from Labour’s health spokesperson Dr Ayesha Verrall, Health Minister Simeon Brown confirmed Health NZ’s four regions had been set “efficiency targets” of between 2-4.9 percent.
Reducing “waste” in back-office and procurement functions could free up up about $510 million, which could be “re-invested straight back into patient care” and government health targets, without reducing clinical staff, Brown said.
However, Verrall questioned how Health NZ could identify specific “efficiency targets”, but not specify exactly what should be cut.
“Five-hundred-million dollars is a massive amount to cut from health services, and to say they’ll do this without any accountability about where it’s coming from or where it’s going is absolutely outrageous.”
…National do this to public health while they pump almost a billion into the private health sector!

Another day another experience with the health system. From the time I walked into A&E the health service swing into action.Kind professional staff got me checked out and into a bad .Within hours tests were done and problem identified.
We are blessed with a great system.but as I lay in bed I could see examples of waste in certain areas these need to be identified and eliminated so the core base of the health system can be even better.
Most likely those examples of waste came out of your bodily orifices trev

What you see is through one blue eye, that much is obvious. Meanwhile an overwhelmed system has leaked personal health information deemed by this government to be “waste” and made redundant. Same old stuff-ups become a crashing bore. Simeon Brown, ‘Minister of Tunnel Vision’ and totally out of his depth, was a banker FGS! His decisions are focused on instant monetary gains, privitasation, more private contractors/consultants etc. in fact anything that remunerates his wealthy donors, who can afford to pay their way but are too mean to do so. He is totally unaccountable because leader, Luxon, is AWOL and can’t answer simple questions. What have we done to deserve this – APATHY? We have watched the wheels fall off our health system and country and done nothing constructive to stop it. My daughter’s recent heart op has highlighted the lack of “support staff” threatening our public hospital system. It’s all in Simeon’s Master Plan to completely sell off our health system and then move on to the next sell-off. If the current lot wish to make savings, the best place to start is the Community Services Card and I have written to Nat & Lab pointing out how this is regularly rorted by the greedy. It should not be based only on income – it should include assets! NZ start fighting back.

The hijacking of NZ’s health system by Simeon Brown and National lead to the ManageMyHealth data breach after they made redundant hundreds of IT specialists to save a few dollars. Now at least 108,000 kiwis have had their data exposed. Simeon’s response “I’m on holiday”.
New Zealand has one job this year, vote out the most Corrupt Coalition Government in history and confine the likes of Brown, Willis, Seymour, Luxon et al, to history.

This is unbelievable due to the fact that they underspent by hundreds of millions despite it being budgeted last year. Main problem with staff recruitment is a hiring freeze across health New Zealand, hence the underspend. These people are dangerous fools.
This Government is a joke, our health system is non existent, in smaller cities like Napier, The so called emergency center is closed more often than not,as a result of staff shortages which is even more unacceptable over Christmas and New Year when medical centers are closed.
