Government could legislate to overturn court ruling, saving billions in veterans’ support payments
The Government is not ruling out legislating to overturn a court ruling about military veterans’ entitlements, which would potentially save over a billion dollars.
…the High Court ruling that Veterans’ Affairs had been getting it wrong over Agent Orange and other veteran welfare claims is clear cut in its withering criticism of the way Veteran’s Affairs have done all they can to get out of their obligations to our veterans.
I am no supporter of the Vietnam Conflict or most any wars, but if we ask Kiwis to risk their lives in the ‘national interest’ then surely we have an obligation to look after the trauma costs and health costs of that service.
What Veterans’ Affairs have been shamefully doing is what every Government Department tasked with care does, everything to not care.
That it took a High Court case to explicitly point out the craven cruelty of Veterans’ Affairs is one thing, to now legislate over the top of that to save money from paying out compensation to those veterans’ is totally other thing.
This is obscene, surely even you craven National, ACT, NZF scumbags will be outraged at what the Government is doing.
Aren’t you the ones who love ANZAC Day?
