Luxon’s trainwreck interview defending invasion of Iran
In his response to the US and Israel’s bombing of Iran, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon suggested his defence policy is something of the opposite – the foreign policy equivalent of Homer Simpson quietly retreating into the bushes.
No one expects a New Zealand Prime Minister to be able to lecture on the history of the Middle East. Helen Clark was perhaps the last of them. Our politics is weighted towards domestic issues and it breeds politicians whose gaze looks inward, rather than outward.
But taking questions on his Monday morning media round, and later at his post-Cabinet press conference, Luxon struggled to articulate where New Zealand stood on the conflict, what it meant for the country today, and the world in which New Zealanders live.
You have to see it to believe it, he tripped over himself so many times trying to avoid the question that he may as well have done the interview from the floor.
This is an illegal war, this Government have sucked up to Israeli and American war criminals as their starting point and then blame those our war criminals are attacking.
It is more important to this Government to criticise Palestinians and Iranians than Americans and Israelis.
Watching the fear in Luxon’s eyes as he slipped over and over and over again on why NZ was supporting the attack on Iran needs to be mocked ruthlessly.
This is our leader, a war criminal apologist.

Luxon’s inability to articulate epitomises this government. Withholding documents from an OIA request on their decision to go with a gas terminal and ditch looking at solar etc, Costello’s pro tobacco stance, or just going against all sorts of other advice on other issues. They can’t articulate an explanation for most of their decisions because there isn’t a palatable one. They are complete sell outs.
I think you could have gotten a more comprehensive and coherent answer from the security guys behind our blessed serpent. Sorry servant.
I’ve never voted for national and I never voted for Labour because National and Labour are the same thing. They’re both neo liberal and neoliberalism gave us the AO / NZ we see today which means luxon will be owned and unable to be an individual with an opinion born of a mind of his own and that should terrify everyone.
