Boom…

Te Pāti Māori co-leaders speak to media as Tākuta Ferris and Mariameno Kapa-Kingi expelled from party

Tākuta Ferris and Mariameno Kapa-Kingi have been expelled from Te Pāti Māori.

Co-leaders Debbie Ngarewa-Packer and Rawiri Waititi announced the decision this morning, with Waititi saying it was part of the party “continuing to reset [its] waka”.

…it had to happen.

THIS IS SPARTA!

Welcome to the Bear Pit of politics.

Te Pati Māori promised a reset this year, moving the party away from being merely an activist party into being a credible and stable partner in replacing this Hard Right anti-Treaty, anti-Māori, anti-Beneficiary, anti-Disabled, anti-Renter, anti-Worker, anti-Environment Government.

Unbeknownst to most, Ferris and Mariameno had been plotting a coup against the leadership since July because they weren’t ‘Tikanga’ enough.

That level of putting ones own ego ahead of the waka, to attempt destabilisation when the political enemy is destroying so much was and is unforgivable.

Te Pati Māori had no choice but to expel those who would seek personal ambition above the collective needs of the community.

Eru’s attack on the leadership while glossing over his abuse of Parliamentary staff+ Mariameno’s over spending and plotting + Doc’s sectarian rhetoric were not Tikanga and using that as a reason to topple Debbie and Rawiri to advance their own agenda could only end in one outcome, expulsion.

That should be the end of the matter, they should simply seat warm until the election and allow others to get on with the mahi to topple this Government, but Eru, Doc and Mariameno have shown an inability to reflect on their leadership coup attempt and the damage that has caused meaning waka jumping legislation alongside the costs of 2 by-elections may have to be the outcome.

This ruthlessness on behalf of te Pati Māori however shows they are prepared to clean house to ensure Labour, the Greens and all left wing voters can rely on them for the stability to replace this terrible Government.

Eru, Doc and Mariameno seem to think the enemy was Debbie, Rawiri and John Tamihere when it was always ACT, National and NZF.

The needlessness of this reflects very poorly on Eru, Doc and Mariameno.

  1. Ferris and Kapa Kingi should have tried to win their view (whatever it was) within party structures and processes, but they went to the corporate media instead-who of course lapped it up.

Corrosive Waka Jump or let the pair sit there as independent pests? Beats me as they are going to mouth off regardless.

Debbie and Rawiri kept stating the main task was to make CoC a one term Govt. which was excellent.

  2. Absolutely right, their behaviour at this time is shocking! However it may not be a good idea to invoke the waka jumping legislation because by-elections take up oxygen and energy and are expensive and at this time a needless distraction from policy politics, which has suffered enough already. I guess the expelled would have to run as independents, if they win TPM are in the same position as now too. Anyway, I am sure TPM will be able to evaluate all of that.

    • Good point LC. by-elections take up oxygen and energy and are expensive and at this time a needless distraction from policy politics, which has suffered enough already.

      • All this on the day Luxon slips “asset sales” into the agenda.
NAct strategists recognise the smokescreen and distraction created by these narcissists and are grateful.

  3. That is good now they need to move on as we have an anti-Māori government in power with many Māori kupapa in their ranks. Also, it is time for TPM to get back to business as we need rid of this nasty government that are not only squeezing Maori but also many other New Zealanders. We need a government that rule for all not just the sorted. And we need a government that has respect for our environment and does not treat it like a cash cow.

  4. “The needlessness of this reflects very poorly on Eru, Doc and Mariameno”.
Hmmm, I think you will find how wrong you are about this. If they stood in a by election, they’d win I reckon. The TPM leader are over estimating their likability and popularity.

    • And you only manage to highlight your arrogance AND ignorance.

If there are by-elections and they stand, Labour will win you muppet because it will be a split vote won’t it clown?

How about you stick to right wing hate talking points Krautet?

    • Talking to the mirror is not a reliable way to know the future KH so you should mix with a wider cross section of society if you want to write intelligent comments. If you are just trusting the MSM that is another problem as they are more interested in making the news than reporting what is actually happening.

  5. They had no choice this is a big distraction at a critical time, TPM need to reboot so we can get rid of the Māori kupapa in the CoC.

  6. Strong in mind and with workable body – that is what NZAO needs in its leaders. Not the obsequious facades we have, strutting across the stage, practising their hand movements to give the impression of open-handed gods.

Give us some honest, good-hearted, working people FGS. Put them up and enough of us will follow them; the rest must just be accommodated, mistaken, propagandised? is that a word, as they are. Capability, incisive thought and fellowship would be good features and a slogan for Kiwis to follow – what do you think?

Controlling our national and personal financial approach not vice-versa; tamed:
    https://theconversation.com/financial-speculation-the-good-the-bad-and-the-parasitic-33613…Speculation’s existential crisis
Matters changed starting in the 1960s. The move from dividends to capital gains had begun in earnest. Speculation now meant investing in the hope of capital appreciation – that is, selling to somebody for a higher price than you paid. Economists writing in the new field of finance claimed that speculation didn’t really exist because markets efficiently priced securities at their anticipated earnings discounted to their present value. This meant that a share of stock was worth what you paid for it. That was investing, not speculating. Cold hard realities have brought this belief into serious question. …

But it seems financial empires, the aggregation of financial investment is so satisfying, better than sex, and as humanity is lost along with the ability to love, one may buy whatever is wanted and have lots of self-esteem which comes with having money. But working with, sharing with others as needed for a good, thriving diverse community cuts across that self-aggrandisement. And every human can go off like this it seems, if personal values aren’t inherent, advanced and modelled from childhood.

So achieving a good system, and then inculcating into the children good citizenship, self respect also for others, and personal values is necessary. We might not have a third-generation with the planet conditions, and destruction across the world nations of values and humane society that the near future will thrust on and around us. So if we try to understand and like each other, and set basic values, and help parents and the vulnerable and, all, everybody. contribute to the society’s good, no totally retired,
    no wealthy drifters.

Maori self-managed themselves for 1,000 years about, with no money – they didn’t have what is called a cash economy. We now need to control our national expectations again or we will get expectorated on by all the hoity-toity ‘hard men and women. A bit of pretension but if the tension gets too great, pop it like an over-inflated balloon, review the basics and retool. Ramblings like mine might yield a rough diamond so don’t just throw them down with the rest of the aggregate!

  7. Is the “waka jumping legislation” valid here? They haven’t left their party. In fact based on their comments they’re saying that didn’t even have the chance to defend themselves.

TL;DR I’m assuming any attempt to invoke “wake jumping” will be heading to court.

  8. Eru Kapa Kingi is fake news he young ambitious but still young. He trying to be a rangatira before more experienced rangatira like John Tamahere who’s been in politics a lot longer than the 3 TPM MPs mentioned put together.

  9. The trouble with both Ferris and Kapa-kingi is they won’t shut up caterwauling from the sidelines, which will be distracting. And if TDB is right it will be better to have two extra Labour MPs than them in parliament. No idea of the strength of their personal support in their electorates, but Kapa-kingi has lost this vote anyway. Hopefully most will see what an utter disgrace a leadership challenge in TPM is at this crucial moment when so many Māori are suffering. It doesn’t matter what people dislike about JT, which is groundless criticism so far and stinks of jealousy at his ‘faction’s’ success in bringing back TPM to be a political force again. The Kapa-kingi overspend on her son, who was re-hired through the back door should give anyone pause, no matter what she says as neither of them have denied the money he got. And wouldn’t Tarsh Kemps office have footed their own expenditure?

  10. Is JT the common denominator here is he a brilliant tactician or a tortured megalomaniac. Sadly it sounds like the implosion of common sense fighting each other rather than taking the fight to the common enemy ie. this awful racist government . How come the newest MP is also in the mix and not supporting the leaders after all she is brand new and she should be more concerned about her brand new constituents already bereaved and still grieving not her support of supposed renegades.
