Woman dead, man critical after both were shot by police in Christchurch overnight
Friends and locals have been left shaken after a woman was shot dead by police in Christchurch last night, while another man was critically injured.
Police were called to a residential address in Clyde Rd, Bryndwr at around 11pm after receiving a report of a man armed with a knife, threatening to hurt himself and his partner.
“Officers arrived at the address a short time later and a woman ran from the house, followed by a man armed with a knife,” Canterbury District Commander, Superintendent Tony Hill said this morning.
“Believing the woman to be at risk of imminent serious harm, police shot the man, critically injuring him.
“The woman subsequently picked up the knife and threatened police.
“Officers appealed for her to put the weapon down, but she instead moved forward. She was also shot, sustaining critical injuries.
“Immediate medical assistance was provided to the woman but tragically she passed away a short time later.”
Wait.
Wait.
Wait.
What the fuck?
Let me see if I can get this completely straight.
The Police arrive at a domestic violence incident, they threaten the male with a gun, immediately enflaming the situation (why a gun, where was the taser?) the male advances, the cops shot, the woman enraged by the male being shot like a dog in the street then picks up the knife and hilariously the cops then point their guns at her and shoot her and kill her.
The cops were sent there to save people’s lives and they ended up shooting both of them and killing one.
I know what you are thinking, ‘But what about the poor police’, don’t you fret fellow citizen, there’s no way anyone is going be held to account.
Look, our Police are really, really, really good at harassing young Māori, chasing young people to death in police chases and getting away with shooting New Zealanders.
NZ Police fatally shoot Kiwis at 11 times the rate of Officers in England and Wales and few are ever held accountable for those killings,
Look at the shootings from 2022, look at how many shots the cops fired and look at how all of them were considered justified…

…hilariously 10 of them were shoot in the back by the cops.
Most Kiwis have no idea of those stats, that’s how powerful the culture of authority worship is in NZ, that’s why so many Dumb Lives Matter protestors were shocked by the Police aggression during the Parliament Lawn protests and why those live-streamed images generated such a feral response and sudden deterioration in trust of institutions.
In the past of course it was only the Armed Defenders Squad who were trained with guns, but nowadays the lower physical requirements mean small people with big guns and barely any training. They are working now on ‘Respect my authority’ American policing meaning anyone with any possible threat who disobeys is open season.
The insanity of shooting both of these people in a domestic violence call out and killing one is beyond any comprehension. The millisecond the cop drew the gun all the other possibilities for de-escalation were immediately removed.
Look, most Kiwis are weird cop worshipping thralls who seem to love submission to dominance, but even the biggest cop toady can’t look at a domestic violence call out where the cops end up shooting everyone as a great outcome.
Even for Authority simps, this seems a tad counterproductive.
There will be the usual whitewash inquiry and if anyone is found to blame accountability will be meaningless and decades away…
Police shooting: Coroner rules Shargin Stephens’ death was ‘preventable’
Police tactics in the fatal shooting of Shargin Stephens showed a disregard for the right to life, according to a scathing coroner’s report.
A probationary officer in “a heightened emotional state” pushed his way past experienced officers and got “unnecessarily and dangerously close” to Stephens, who was holding a slasher after smashing up a police car, and shot him twice with an M4 rifle.
Coroner Michael Robb ruled the death, in July 2016, was preventable and his 207-page report painted a picture of police chaos on the day, including a lack of leadership and a failure to de-escalate the situation.
…Shargin was shot almost a decade ago, the barest of accountabilities made.
So.
Don’t you dare fret that any boy or girl in Blue will face any accountability whatsoever for turning up at a domestic violence incident and shooting everyone.
As you were Kiwi. As you were.

Tasers were sold as a substitute for lethal force but have always been more a compliance device. Pepper is used just to torture people by laughing cops.
The back story on the shot couple indicates mental health issues, plods seem to have given away different tactics like de-escaltion/restraint and get the shooters out in the first instance.
To quote Clint, “next you’ll be blowing your neighbor away, because his dog shits on your lawn”.
Is there no longer such a thing, as a warning shot any more. At least the person killed, was protected from her partner harming her. With a high capacity semi automatic, a reasonable marksman might have fired a dozen shots at the woman’s legs, and she would not have been much of a threat after that. She may have been crippled, but would have lived. But she was trouble, and had she been a fellow officer of the law being uncooperative, then more options may have been considered. I agree that the IPCA findings can easily be predicted to be, that this shooting was justified. If a member of the public had shot someone in these circumstances, it’s likely they would be in big trouble. But the officer who pulled the trigger in this situation, can be confident that they will not receive an adverse finding. It’s just the way the State Sector has been carefully designed to protect itself.
When frontline staff at the health services or child services or welfare services or police were asked to investigate abuse of children in State care, their historical go to reaction, was to cover up + do nothing + sweep it under the carpet. And those frontline staff would be confidant that all the State Sector, from the IPCA and HDC and the Commissioners and the Ombudsmans. would fall into line and back them up. It’s such a huge contrast in Police reaction regarding those who abused children in state care, and those who abused children at Gloriavale.
NZ needs to fall in line with the rest of the developed world and institute an anti corruption agency that can route out such injustices. I mean the IPCA or HDC probably only investigate less than 5% of complaints they receive from the public, and are basically only there for show, and carefully manicured State Sector reputation management, to give the illusion of propriety, that is sufficient to convince the larger public. But those of us with first hand knowledge, such as those residing on Clyde Rd Bryndwr Christchurch, or the 200000 children abused in State care, will know the real reality of having glimpsed the matrix. While the rest of us carry on merrily, looking up to those in the State Sector, to set the standard of behavior for the rest of society…when the reality is, that they are the very best at covering up, and knowing absolutely that they will get away with it, because any investigation will concentrate on explaining away situations that show those in the State Sector in the best possible light, and no deeper investigation, such as looking into whether there were any links between the person who pulled the trigger, and the person who’s heart stopped beating, will ever even be contemplated.
I mean thousands of the public servants have been made redundant for austerity, yet useless organisations like IPCA or HDC that must cost millions to run, are untouchable.
I mean it took the British half a century to work out who killed Blair Peach, even though all the suspects and witnesses happened to be Police, it was just way too difficult.
In leu of a critical mass of the population seeing through this matrix, I nominate Ross Meurant or Jackie Foster to be put in charge of the IPCA, and be properly funded and resourced, and instructed in the first instance to get rid of all those rubber stampers and their cushy arrangement with those under their supposed oversight, and immediately make it illegal for anyone who has served in NZ Police, to ever join the IPCA.
I’d also recommend that the salaries of the whole public service be docked to pay the abuse in State care compensation, and a permanent system to fairly compensate those harmed by the State be established, and also paid for by docking the public service, because we all know this crap is not going to be stopping any time soon.
And public servants who are shown to have willfully turned a blind eye to serious wrongdoing, be treated as accessories of that wrongdoing.
And while I’m on a roll, teachers be paid the same salary as backbenchers, as it was in the past, either by having their pay raised, or the backbenchers pay reduced, because govt austerity should start with itself, fairs fair.
Let’s see what you would do if you were armed with a gun and a nut job is running at you with a knife and refusing to drop it.
Yep …FAFO …
So James Brown, what about the 10 that were running in the opposite direction?
I think you need to go out with the police in a patrol car for a weekend or two. The shit they’re dealing with I’m surprised there aren’t more shootings. As the saying goes…‘everyone’s a liberal until they’re a victim of violent crime’.
How the hell can the IPCA decide that shooting an unarmed person, or someone carrying only a knife or hammer, is justified? That’s insane.
What’s going on when huge numbers of shots are fired? Even assuming that a lot of the shots were misses, that is an awful lot of bullets flying around that have to hit something. Are cops exempt from the consideration of where the bullet will strike if it doesn’t strike the intended target?
Only a knife and hammer ….?
Hmmm interesting …
“Only a knife and hammer ….?
Hmmm interesting …”
Especially so when that hammer was only used on vehicle windows.
Knife or hammer, not knife and hammer. Learn to read.
Plan A use a dog
Plan B use a Taser and a dog they had a knife not a gun
Plan C shoot their legs if Taser does not work or too slow to get a dog
Plan D shoot in their middle area as a last resort
Sounds like our Police panicked and went straight to plan D
Exactery. Even IF the dog was miles away, where was the taser? Have they invested more in guns than they have in tasers that we were all told were going to be the bestest thing in this space, going forward.
More from the world of crapification/enshitification.

Plan E: become a cop and put yourself in danger. Plan F: wait for the inquiry to take place
You obviously havent had any dealing with cops. There is no excuse not to use all of their tools what is the point of having tasers threy could have used it on both the women now dead and the man in hospital costing us thousands of dollars,it’s called lack of experience and trigger happy.
And you obviously have no idea that they are taught to shoot at centre mass, it’s not a “last resort”. The idea is if you’re going to shoot someone, then give yourself the best chance of hitting them while preventing that bullet from missing the target and hitting something – or someone – else
Shooting people in the legs is best left to Hollywood script writers
pig lovers will find anyway to justify cops arriving at a domestic issue and shooting everyone – that’s how blind pig lovers are – no matter what the scenario, no matter how much historic facts showing and Cops kill at higher levels than other police departments, pig lovers gone love pigs
I’m not really sure what your point is, but it doesn’t change what I said. The NZ Police are trained to shoot at centre mass as are most police around the world. So covid-is-pa is mistaken when he said they “panicked”. They actually did exactly what they were trained to do.
Now you could say that their shooting wasn’t justified in the first place, but then I never said it was either. Personally I’d rather not see our police with guns.
You obviously havent had any dealing with cops. There is no excuse not to use all of their tools what is the point of having tasers threy could have used it on both the women now dead and the man in hospital costing us thousands of dollars,it’s called lack of experience and trigger happy. IPCA is the police investigating themselves not a very fair system.
Then plead guilty …
What happened to rubber bullets?
It is so fucked up that the abused women was killed by the police who were supposed to protect her. Shields? Sticks? Rubber bullets? Tasers?
No such thing as Plan C etc. You cannot get more crazed toward willingness than during a Plan B.
Plan A —
a story behind Penfold’s back —
Once upon a time there were two men called Alliteration who didn’t know that they were brothers from the same father. They were enemies, each one adept at using the other for political gain from their respective jobs.
Big brother knew about Little brother folding his pen up&inside Evil to release woman-look-alike.
Big brother is old now and has finally made peace with Little brother; however, he never respected women and now that he enjoys a close friendship with Little brother he feels scared because women everywhere are pointing out the obvious —
that a man who eunuchs himself with the true intention of feeling like a woman would not choose a name like Penfold. Just wouldn’t, couldn’t.
The moral of the story is that Winston Peters has also long lived with a silly-man fetish and the plot thickens. Does Luxon too? Seymour??
(This story is for you on condition that you can accept this imagination — Let’s say for example that I guessed correctly.
And with the information that Penfold has never corrected me if I guessed wrong — and even a half-way-decent woman journo would. Also, that Penfold sneakily pursued me.)
go men GO
Tikanga
it is appalling, and he shot both the people apparently. I feel for that community. The one guy said a lot of this is to do with addiction and mental health and there is just not the support.
This is the killer phrase I think:
They are working now on ‘Respect my authority’ American policing meaning anyone with any possible threat who disobeys is open season.
There was mention that they might be training under Israeli police tactics, (or is it tackticks?).
Are the NZ police trained to handle dangerous individuals and situations without the use of lethal force?
The UK police are famous for their ability to handle and disarm knife and machete wielding assailants without firearms and instead have wooden sticks and plastic shields. You can find clips on YouTube.
Every situation is different and things can happen very quickly but the polices first instinct should be preservation of life. They should have the training and tools to achieve that outcome – guns are probably not the right tool for the job.
The origins of the New Zealand police is predicated on ethnically cleansing Maori from there lands and livelihood to make way for European settlements.
The IPCA is a joke its ex-pigs investigating current pigs. If you don’t have it on Camera than obfuscation & lies become the main story. The corrections officers now have body cameras time for our frontline police to follow suite
I’d like to know how many had brown skin and how many had mental health problems.
Thank you for using your platform to spread positivity
Yeah, I don’t see how someone brandishing a knife is a real threat to the cops (i.e. trained for such incidents). Also can’t they fire a warning shot in the air first, and then at worst shoot the attacker in the foot when they feel genuinely threatened? This whole story seems very gung-ho to me on the part of the cops.
This will bring out all the left leaning police hating heroes. Police do not go to work with the intent of killing someone and the shotter will be scared for life I imagine. It is sad about the woman but my sympathy is with the police
Black is a Plan A-er against a crazy Plan B-er. Very good.
David Gray was “suicide by cop”, fyi
So easy to be critical and knowledgeable and correct from the comfort of one’s armchair. “A policeman’s lot is not a happy one”
jeez – are all the police this soft? god help us if this is the level of the police force today.
You can enlist I am sure they need big brave men who are heros of the keyboard
Thank God we don’t live in authoritarian Communist China, eh? The pigs might’ve been properly trained, physically fit, and ready to take even a slight risk to their safety to make sure everyone went home alive that day. Sounds horrifying!

Sam Matue killed after being caught by police following the car he was fleeing police in, became bogged on the beach at Orere Point at a dead end with no chance of escape. Sam Matue approaches the police with what appears to be a metal bar. Sam Matue is tasered and pepper sprayed to disarm and subdue him. Held down on the ground by police, Sam Matue has a dog set on him and then video appears to show Sam Matue being kicked in the head by a woman police officer with her regulation steel capped police boots while he is being held down.
What killed Sam Matue?

IPCA independently investigating the death of Mr Faasala Samu Matue
12 March 2025
The Authority has been notified by the Police under section 13 of the Independent Police Conduct Authority Act 1988 about an incident involving the death of Mr Faasala Samu Matue at Ōrere Point in Counties Manukau on 2 March 2025.
During the incident, Mr Matue confronted the Police with a metal pole and was subsequently tasered. He reportedly resisted arrest, leading the Police to use various forms of force, including manual force, pepper spray, and a police dog.
The Authority is conducting an independent investigation into the incident and will release its findings publicly in due course.
While the IPCA investigation mentions, the tazering, the pepper spray, the manual force, and police dog, but omits mentioning the kicks delivered to Sam Matue clearly captured on video while he was being restrained on the ground.

Relatives of the man who died after a confrontation with police allege officers assaulted their loved one extensively while tasering and pepper spraying him……
Faasala Samu (Sam) Matue, aged 45, died on Sunday at rural Auckland’s Ōrere Point after he and another person were attempting to flee…..
To all those justifing this action;
so far you have only the police’s word that either victim was threatening violence in the manner the describe.
Beware of police-speak, their use of language is deigned to support their own narratives and they lie with consummate ease.
The usual wankers push the “you try being a cop then” line.
The last thing I want to be is a member of the State Forces that shoots first rather than de-escalates and uses multiple tactics. Police accountability is needed more than ever as their armoury and US methods increase.
Well tiger ( neat name btw , i was eight once too ! ) as the Pope once said …” Everyone has a plan until they get smacked in the face , I know a few cops mostly from before they got into the police only one or two that I would’nt consider excellent people , its been put better , but we sleep well at night because others put themselves in harms way
“but we sleep well at night because others put themselves in harms way”
is not an argument for ignoring the consequences of poor policing standards and practice.
Try again.
Orwell:
We sleep soundly in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm.
Gracias ….gee might not have been the Pope either …
poor policing standards ? Hmm… compared to which magic kingdom ?
