What: Pay equity hui– union and community action
When: 1:00pm, Thursday 22 May 2025 (Budget Day)
Where: Parliament Lawn, Wellington

E tū, other unions, and the wider community will gather at Parliament on Budget Day to demand the Government reverse its attacks on pay equity and commit to progressing all current settlements.

The rally is one of dozens of events across Aotearoa in recent weeks where workers, women, and the wider community have expressed deep anger over the Government’s decision to cancel existing pay equity claims and rewrite the rules.

E tū Director Georgie Dansey says the Government has underestimated how important this issue is to New Zealanders.

“Across the country, people are standing up for fairness,” Georgie says.

“This Government has pulled the plug on claims that would finally deliver justice to thousands of underpaid women – and they’ve offered nothing in return but delays, confusion, and disrespect.

“We’re calling on them to reverse their changes and get on with progressing the pay equity settlements already on the table. These workers can’t wait any longer.”

E tū is inviting the public to join the rally on Parliament Lawn to stand up for fair pay, dignity, and gender justice.
