UN Relief Chief demands rapid, safe, unimpeded aid delivery in Gaza

Statement by Tom Fletcher, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, on resuming aid delivery to Gaza

New York, 16 May 2025

https://www.ochaopt.org/content/un-relief-chief-demands-rapid-safe-unimpeded-aid-delivery-gaza

As we demonstrated during the ceasefire this year – and every time we’ve been granted access – the United Nations and our humanitarian partners have the expertise, resolve and moral clarity to deliver aid at the scale necessary to save lives across Gaza. To those proposing an alternative modality for aid distribution, let’s not waste time: We already have a plan. This document sets it out again.  It is rooted in the non-negotiable principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality and independence. It is backed by a coalition of donors and the vast majority of the international community. It is ready to be activated – today – if we are simply allowed to do our jobs.

We have the people. We have the distribution networks. We have the trust of the communities on the ground. And we have the aid itself – 160,000 pallets of it – ready to move. Now.

We’ve done this before. We can do it again. We know how to get our aid supplies registered, scanned, inspected, loaded, offloaded, inspected again, loaded again, transported, stored, protected from looting, tracked, trucked, monitored and delivered – without diversion, without delay, and with dignity. We know how to reach civilians in desperate need and stave off famine.

Enough. We demand rapid, safe, and unimpeded aid delivery for civilians in need.

Let us work.

Leslie Bravery is a Londoner with vivid World War Two memories of the Nazi blitz on his home town. In 1947/1948 His father explained to him what was happening to the Palestinians thus: “Any ideology or political movement that creates refugees in the process of realising its ambitions must be inhuman and should be opposed and condemned as unacceptable.” What followed confirmed this assessment of the Zionist entity a hundredfold. Now a retired flamenco guitarist, with a lifelong interest in the tragedy of what happened to the Palestinian people, he tries to publicise their plight. Because the daily injustices they suffer barely get a mention in the mainstream news media, Leslie edits/compiles a daily newsletter, In Occupied Palestine, for the Palestine Human Rights Campaign. These days, to preserve his sanity, he enjoys taking part in a drama group whenever possible!

  1. All the Sinwars gone now. Hamas is reeling from and feeling the full force of the bunker busters. And Israel came second in Eurovision and won the popular vote with unprecedented numbers. The silent majority, Israel’s dedicated supporters, have spoken.

    • Funny how Israel is now claiming thank Yahweh they come second, apparently winning is too much for them. Nothing like a fake atrocity speel to catch the sympathy vote, Same old same old.

      • Don’t those Israelis do well. Considering the horror and trauma the young woman was subjected to on Oct 7 it is a miracle that she had the fortitude to appear on stage, let alone to reel out the superb performance she did before a hostile crowd. Naturally she was never going to be judged the winner.

According to Gaby Jews are enforcing a 3000 year old property right.
