Humanitarian Situation Update #288
Gaza Strip
Key Highlights
The blockade, new displacement orders, and ongoing bombardments (including on tents, hospitals and schools) continue to drive a growing number of casualties, displacement and extreme levels of deprivation across Gaza.
In a briefing to the Security Council on the humanitarian situation and the protection of aid workers in Gaza, the UN Relief Chief, Tom Fletcher, called for decisive action to prevent genocide in Gaza.
Strikes on the two main hospitals in Khan Yunis have further crippled an already decimated health–care system, triggering renewed calls for the protection of civilians, including medical personnel and medical facilities in line with international humanitarian law.
Three–quarters of the population in Gaza are projected to face emergency or catastrophic levels of acute food insecurity under a reasonable worst-case scenario of a protracted and large-scale military operation and continuation of the full blockade. Under this scenario, key indicators of food insecurity, acute malnutrition and mortality would surpass the IPC famine thresholds.

14th May….happy birthday, Israel! 3,000 years old, 77 years young. Mazel tov!
‘Happy birthday, Israel! 3,000 years old.’
3000 years since Abraham settled?
‘Most scholars view the patriarchal age, along with the Exodus and the period of the biblical judges, as a late literary construct that does not relate to any particular historical era.’
McNutt, Paula M. (1999). Reconstructing the Society of Ancient Israel. Westminster John Knox Press. ISBN 978-0-664-22265-9.
3000 year since Moses and Exodus?
‘ biblical exodus traditions are the invention of the exilic and post-exilic Jewish community, with little to no historical basis.’
Russell, Stephen C. (2009). Images of Egypt in Early Biblical Literature. Walter de Gruyter. ISBN 978-3-11-022171-8.
3000 years since King David’s Kingdom?
‘ A number of scholars consider the David story to be a heroic tale similar to the legend of King Arthur or the epics of Homer’
Thompson, Thomas L. (2001). “A view from Copenhagen: Israel and the History of Palestine”. The Bible and Interpretation. Retrieved 2020-12-25. The history of Palestine and of its peoples is very different from the Bible’s narratives, whatever political claims to the contrary may be. An independent history of Judea during the Iron I and Iron II periods has little room for historicizing readings of the stories of I-II Samuel and I Kings.
Time to stop. This can go on forever. Never was so much bullshit used to support the claims of an illegal state founded upon wishful thinking.
