By destroying pay equity to save the budget, this Government have declared a war on working women.

Alt-Right culture warriors scream ‘define a woman’ while the Political Right ‘defund women’.

We have money for tobacco subsides, military and loop holes for wealthy landlords, but no money for our sisters, mothers, aunties, wives, girlfriends and fellow women workers

  1. The equal pay act was passed in 1972.
To those women who think they’re underpaid because they work in low skilled jobs, I recommend further education to upskill them, and to girls thinking of following the same path I recommend paying attention at school.

    • Andrew you are obviously a van Veldan sycophant. She might have studied hard but it hasn’t made her a very nice person.

    • Dreadful stuff from you Andrew. Basically patronising, sexist shit.
It is not and has never been about low skilled jobs – many of the jobs require skills, and getting a higher education doesn’t guarantee you anything.

So do you think it is right to compare
police – train six months (predominantly male job)
nurses – 3 year degree (predominantly female job). Why has this job been underpaid for years and years and years.

      • Of course one of those jobs has a higher likelihood of being spat at, stabbed, shot or punched in face, so has to pay more to attract applicants. However, they do seem to be pushing for some equality to the roles with how nurses have been treated lately.

    • Let’s talk about ‘low-skilled’ jobs then.
There are no low-skilled jobs – as you would know within 10 minutes if you tried to do one of these jobs at the pace, efficiency and minimal error rate required.
There are however jobs that require common skills, i.e., skills that many people have. That means, that if there is a market in labour, jobs that require common skills (i.e. skills that are in plentiful supply) will command a lower wage than jobs that require rarer skills.

In other words, if a market in labour exists, the wage that a job commands is nothing to do with ‘low’ or ‘high’ skills, it is to do with common or rare skills. The second point is that the type of skill (common or rare) can bear some relation to the social value of the job (e.g. a surgeon), but in many, many cases it does not (e.g. aged care workers). It was this among other things that lead Karl Polanyi in ‘The Great Transformation’ (1944) to declare the labour was a “fictitious commodity”

    • You are one sick cunt andrew let’s hope when you get old or end up incapacitated you can wipe your own arrrrrse

    • You were saying the same shit during covid of supermarket workers Andycapped and we saw how very important they were for low wage employees. Just because someone is higher skilled doesn’t make them a better employee, that’s just failed right wing ideology and you’re well down the hole with that.

  2. Look at her. She’s screaming inside, ‘Why don’t you shut up and let me take over, you pompous prat,’
That’s one very ambitious person. She’s asexual an very dself-interested and controlling.
Seymour had better watch his back.

Let’s just define a woman as someone who is fair game for a right-wing political system to use and abuse.
Mother’s Day was ruined long ago by commercial interests, anyway.

  3. brooke van whatsit’s an act thing and remember, ACT , like is a splinter gang off The Gangster Prime, The National Party. The National party started [up] in 1936 with the sole purpose of separating farmer money from the farmer then redistributing that free money to National Party ‘supporters’ from 1936.
Did you or you know that? Yes, you and you. I’m asking you’s. Did you know that? That, right there is mafia shit. Old families of vicious crooks. We have no governance. Instead we have mafia shit going on. Remember the wine box inquiry? Remember winston peters and the wine box inquiry? Remember the compelling evidence to suggest dirty deals done in the proceedings? Remember how that came to nothing? Remember Paul White? https://ojs.aut.ac.nz/pacific-journalism-review/article/view/603/804
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Ian Wishart and all that but that doesn’t stop the facts being the facts.
We. Desperately. Need. A. Full. Disclosure. Royal. Commission. Of. Inquiry. Urgently.
Rip that apart then throw it back in my face if you like, I have a face for having things being thrown at it, but the facts are like the truth and the truth can only be the truth.

  4. Women can just rely on the market. It’s a perfect mechanism that if left alone reaches a stable equilibrium and delivers maximum utility for all in line with their intrinsic merit. Leave it alone to work its divine perfection and you will hear the music of the spheres forever and ever Amen.
Here endeth the first lesson of St Brooke.

  5. Killer Brooke and David, little David but oh my. Kick them the uppity lower-clas tarts, build a clas society along the lines of old Brit around 1800-1900. Read Catherine Cookson who wrote of how women and men pulled themselves out of that but could be a textbook for finding your way back to the superior privilege deserved by people with taste and discernment. B…er this love another, and help each other stuff. Just revert to modern civilisation untrammelled by finer thoughts and fairness and a wish for everyone to live satisfactory live

  6. For some reason ,local right-wing commentators are ignoring what’s just happened in Canada and Australia. Let me provide some corrective detail- Matt Carney;s Liberals and Anthony Albanese’s ALP were returned to office during the course of the last month. Part of the reason why was women got extremely cold feet about the policies proposed and enacted by Opposition Leaders Pierre Poilievre and Peter Dutton, both of whom lost their seats. When they reached the ballot box, they turned left.

It’s quite possible Brooke Van Der Velden’s move has just cost National and ACT the next election, because it cannot learn from the mistakes of comparable political parties elsewhere in the world. She’s handed the left a target with the words ‘gender gap to the max’ on it.

    • I’m with you on this, Craig.

They have basically lost the next election already.

Even if arrives earlier than originally planned.

The only thing that can save them now is some kind of nationwide or worldwide emergency or disaster that gives voters extreme fear, so they instead keep the incumbent government with their “safe pair of hands”.

      As usual.

  7. I also noted that when Winston went off on one of his senior moments asking ‘what is a woman’ in Parliament recently, Chris Hipkins responded gamely: “Apparently someone you can pay less than a man”,
