The Editor doesn’t moderate this blog,  3 volunteers do, they are very lenient to provide you a free speech space but if it’s just deranged abuse or putting words in bloggers mouths to have a pointless argument, we don’t bother publishing.

All in all, TDB gives punters a very, very, very wide space to comment in but we won’t bother with out right lies or gleeful malice. We leave that to the Herald comment section.

EDITORS NOTE: – By the way, here’s a list of shit that will get your comment dumped. Sexist abuse, homophobic abuse, racist abuse, anti-muslim abuse, transphobic abuse, Chemtrails, 9/11 truthers, Qanon lunacy, climate deniers, anti-fluoride fanatics, anti-vaxxer lunatics, 5G conspiracy theories, the virus is a bioweapon, some weird Bullshit about the UN taking over the world  and ANYONE that links to fucking infowar.

  1. We need more laws embracing sanctions for stealing from the people by politicians and plump contractors and those embracing government duties, for profit and minimum service. For instance. And meanwhile there is a venal wave of unconcern about other citizens and greed to obtain all the riches available, after the dogfight establishes who is on top. Unfairness and illegality and going close to something that is close to stealing the dummy from a baby, but smart babies don’t care – someone up there is looking after them. Wake up you high-class people and mix with the lower like me, who try to keep the hurdy-gurdy going so you can come down after your high ride and take part in the fun-fair.

But this in USA beats all. I find it difficult to follow their news without a need to step outside for a while. Spurious
This latest Wisconsin news has FBI taking over the Courts of two judges and some arrests of Judges made.
immigration law enforcement lack and abortion ferment in the background. Something that is interesting is that six out of seven judges in Milwaukee, Wisconsin are women. Why? Where is the to-be-expected balance. Do we now need to have male quotas? We surely don’t want to play see-saw on rights appointments.

Here the candidate for Supreme Court Judge, Schimel makes an emotional, derisive argument against women judges on abortion rights on the basis that they are emotional! It is hyperbole, and coming from a repressive stance. Thoughtful and wise it is not.
    Feb.28/25 .https://pbswisconsin.org/news-item/wisconsin-supreme-court-justices-weigh-in-on-schimels-comments-about-abortion-case-oral-arguments/
..Brad Schimel, a Waukesha County judge and former Republican attorney general, faces Susan Crawford, a Dane County judge backed by Democrats, in the high-stakes April 1 election.

Abortion has been a key issue in the race. Schimel opposes abortion rights and Crawford supports them. Both candidates have said they would be impartial if the issue comes before the court…
““There were times that when that camera went on several of the liberal justices, they were on the brink of losing it,” Schimel said on WSAU-AM. “You could see it in their eyes, and you could hear it in the tone of their voice. They are being driven by their emotions. A Supreme Court justice had better be able to set their personal opinions and their emotions aside and rule on the law objectively. This is — we don’t have that objectivity on this court.””…

…The four [liberal] justices are Jill Karofsky, Ann Walsh Bradley, Rebecca Dallet and Janet Protasiewicz. Bradley’s retirement created the open seat that Crawford and Schimel are battling over. The winner is elected to a 10-year term.
Schimel’s campaign issued statements from the two conservative justices who are women saying there was nothing wrong with Schimel’s comments and that their liberal colleagues were wrong to criticize him…

On Friday, FBI agents arrested a county judge in Milwaukee and charged her with obstructing justice and concealing an individual from arrest. After an undocumented immigrant, Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, appeared before her in court on an unrelated misdemeanor charge, Judge Hannah Dugan learned that ICE agents were waiting in the hallway outside her courtroom to arrest him. Dugan told the agents they could not perform the arrest without a judicial warrant and adjourned the hearing, directing Flores-Ruiz to leave her courtroom into a public hallway. Milwaukee-based attorney Ann Jacobs says it appears that two DEA agents who remained in the hallway as Flores-Ruiz left did not take any action toward an arrest while he was still inside the courthouse. He was later pursued and arrested outside. One week later, FBI agents arrested Dugan, accusing her of helping Flores-Ruiz avoid arrest. “The message is crystal clear: ‘If you cross the Trump administration, we will arrest you,'” says Jacobs. “The goal is to chill judges from ruling against the Trump administration,” with “the hopes that they can cudgel the judiciary into simply becoming meekly obedient to the executive branch.” Dugan’s longtime friend Emilio De Torre, who spoke at the protests, says FBI Director Kash Patel’s public celebration of her arrest is “absolutely disgusting and damaging,” and slams the effects of Trump’s attacks on civil society. “People here in Milwaukee are not taking kindly to the fact that our community, our economy, our family, now our courthouses and our schools are being disrupted by the heavy-handed overreach that we see.”

Track this tart down and jacket her. She probably if one of the group that started NZAO on this slide to neoliberal madness we now are on. Put her in prison with all those male prisoners so she can teach them how women behave more nicely, with propriety, and rationally than males.

Ferries are needed by an efficient, effective working nation and the Maritime Union expresses concern as deep as Cook Strait. Can we get ourselves an efficient, effective government and Finance Minister and hard-headed business advisors, not pie-in-th-sky, told to look and act tough as Nicola must have been advised.

    https://thedailyblog.co.nz/2025/05/02/maritime-union-of-new-zealand-media-release-serious-concerns-over-aratere-ferry-removal-2/
The Maritime Union of New Zealand (MUNZ) is expressing serious concern following the announcement that the Interislander ferry Aratere is being removed from service indefinitely.
The Union says the loss of the rail-enabled Aratere, a crucial link between the North and South Islands, significantly weakens the resilience of New Zealand’s national supply chain…

Mr Findlay [Maritime Union of New Zealand National Secretary Carl Findlay] says the announcement is causing concern for maritime workers, transport operators, and the New Zealand public.
“The removal of the Aratere is another blow to the reliability of the Cook Strait crossing, a situation entirely predictable after the cancellation of the iReX project,” says Mr Findlay.

“We consistently warned about the fragility of the ageing ferry fleet. Finance Minister Nicola Willis’s decision to scrap the plan for new, purpose-built ferries has left New Zealand reliant on older vessels prone to failure. Losing the Aratere, especially its rail freight capability, puts immense pressure on the remaining vessels and the entire transport network.”
Mr Findlay says the Maritime Union supported Minister of Rail Hon. Winston Peters work to get a new deal for rail-enabled ferries…

…Ferry Holdings Limited has initiated discussions with KiwiRail, Port Marlborough New Zealand Limited and CentrePort Limited to understand the infrastructure required to meet the Ministers deadline of 2029 for the new Cook Strait ferries to enter operations.

To deliver this programme of work, Ferry Holdings is engaging with Port Marlborough and CentrePort to agree detailed port infrastructure plans in quarter 4, 2028. As part of this process work is required to decommission and/or demolition of the Aratere berth.
Port Marlborough has advised that the demolition of the Aratere berth is a critical first step to meet the required port infrastructure requirements ahead of the commissioning of the new ferries in 2029.
The removal of this berth will mean that the Aratere ferry will no longer be able to deliver services across the Cook Strait…

Mākereti Papakura, The First Indigenous Woman To Study At Oxford, To Be Awarded A Posthumous Degree
    Wednesday, 30 April 2025, 8:06 pm
The School of Anthropology and Museum Ethnography at the University of Oxford has announced that pioneering Māori scholar, Mākereti Papakura, will receive a posthumous degree more than 100 years after she began her studies.
Born in Aotearoa New Zealand in 1873, Mākereti is believed to be the first indigenous woman to matriculate to the University. She enrolled in 1922 to read Anthropology at the Pitt Rivers Museum, where much of the teaching was conducted at the time, and at the Society of Home Students, now St Anne’s College. In her groundbreaking research for her studies at Oxford, she explored the customs of her people of Te Arawa from a female perspective. Her scholarship, combined with her indigenous worldview, earned her the respect of many Oxford academics at the time, and has gone on to be celebrated by members of Māori communities and researchers worldwide.
Press Release: Te Wananga o Aotearoa
June Northcroft Grant, on behalf of Mākereti’s family and tribe (Tūhourangi – Ngāti Wāhiao), said:
‘We are grateful to Oxford University for this tribute to Mākereti’s memory and to all those who have supported her story in the years since her passing. It is a testament to the lasting power of education, culture, and the determination of one woman to ensure that Māori stories would not be forgotten.

We have always known the sacrifices she made to pursue education and the strength it took for her to continue, often in the face of considerable challenges. We are especially humbled that her customary tribal practices and the scholarship she possessed have been acknowledged with such careful and respectful consideration by the University’s Education Committee
This recognition belongs to Mākereti, to our ancestors, and to the Māori community worldwide…
