Yay, rich woman can go into Space now too!

Katy Perry, Gayle King and four other women are headed for the ‘edge of space’. Here’s what that means

Blue Origin is taking a star-studded crew of six female passengers to the edge of space on Monday in one of the most closely watched suborbital space tourism missions in years.

The flight will last about 10 minutes – carrying the group more than 100 kilometres into the sky and offering a few minutes of weightlessness before they descend.

Um.

Yay?

Hashtag you go girl!

Hashtag Boss Babe!

Hashtag feminism?

Rich women can go to space too you sexist pigs!

I think Space tourism is ugly, I think Space should be for research and experts, I think sending 6 rich women into space from the profits of treating human beings like slaves inside Amazon.com as some sort of equality virtue signal is a joke.

Good news is that the flight didn’t explode because that would have doomed us to gifs and memes of the explosion played to Katy Perry’s ‘Firework‘:

Do you ever feel like a plastic bagDrifting through the windWanting to start again?Do you ever feel, feel so paper thinLike a house of cardsOne blow from caving in?
Do you ever feel already buried deep?Six feet under screams, but no one seems to hear a thingDo you know that there’s still a chance for you‘Cause there’s a spark in you
You just gotta ignite the light, and let it shineJust own the night like the 4th of July
‘Cause, baby, you’re a fireworkCome on, show ’em what you’re worthMake ’em go, “Oh, oh, oh”As you shoot across the sky

So, yay, rich woman can go into Space now too.

What an achievement.

    • Doesn’t sound too bad looking at them dolls and picturing where they might hang out, perhaps in those cafes with tables on the street and umbrellas over their heads and in their cocktails too. Umbrellas are very meaningful objects I think for human development, so could be a good place.

  1. Yep. Time to “shake the superflux” from the lot of them, man or woman is immaterial.

Note: from King Lear, Act III, Scene IV
“Expose thyself to feel what wretches feel,
That thou mayst shake the superflux to them
And show the heavens more just.”

    • Damn you AB. I just had to find out why Shakespeare was using this word which somehow sounds modern to me.
What does superflux mean in Shakespeare?
superflux (n.) superfluity, superabundance, surplus possessions. KL III.iv.35. [Lear to himself, of the behaviour of rich to poor] That thou mayst shake the superflux to them.

  2. Yay awesome wimmin – can’t keep them down. Money – helium balloons in their image, collect the whole set and go in the draw for your own trip into the void.

  3. Are they taking forward the Ginger Roberts female expertise thing?
…don’t forget that Ginger Rogers did everything he did, …backwards and in high heels…

Or perhaps emulating or celebrating Michael Jackson?
The moonwalk, or backslide, is a popping dance move in which the performer glides backwards but their body actions suggest forward motion. It became popular around the world when Michael Jackson performed the move.

  4. I think it’s hilarious. Imagine all the weightless face lift fillers? I can see the Michelin Man flirting for a date.

  5. Massive virtue signal at the cost of the environment.
Eat bugs, go vegan, ride a bike lower your living standards so the super rich can joyride in space because #feminism.
They are rightly being torn a new one by the internet for it though.
