It just gets worse and worse…

Media Insider: Billionaire Jim Grenon inquired about buying Stuff during first Covid lockdown in 2020

The Auckland billionaire wanting an overhaul of media company NZME’s board has confirmed he made an inquiry to buy rival publisher Stuff five years ago.

…to date, the defence for this Alt-Right Canadian Billionaire taking over NZME has been that he’s just your average run of the mill vulture capitalist who will strip assets from NZME and make a quick killing.

All fine and good, however critics like me have pointed to:

  • The sly manner NZMEs largest shareholder seems to have worked alongside Grenon to put forward an attack on the current Board that isn’t true.
  • His support of anti-vaxx fear grifter Chantelle Baker.
  • His war on the Journalists Union.
  • His support for a far right fringe alt-right culture war hate blog that has an anti-Trans, anti-Māori, anti-Treaty, anti-vaccine and climate denying editorial line.

What we are seeing with news that he wanted to buy Stuff’s newspapers 5 years ago doesn’t speak of a vulture capitalist wanting to shred assets, it speaks to a radical far right Billionaire who wants media platforms to sell his damaged view of the world.

I keep warning you this alt-Right Canadian Billionaire attempting to take over our largest newspaper and radio station will be deeply damaging to NZ’s fourth estate and democracy.

  1. It is not as though all is fine and dandy with NZME. NZME as it is does not turn out honest, objective, fair or intelligent news or commentary. Nor does it show any respect for journalistic integrity. Just ask Malcolm Evans.

  2. He is a nobody, will be long forgotten and only rednecks and intellectually impaired will welcome his presence.

  3. Now what would we do if it was Peter Theil? It is the unspoken understanding we will throw him into the sea if he says a peep.

  4. I think it would be the last remnant of the old great Welfare State, but a foreign ‘Right’ (that is vital) billionaire owning main media would be rejected out of hand here. By whatever means.
