I agree Trump is one nasty person who is endangering the World both in trade and power but can someone explain why the nuclear ban makes any sense.The nuclear ships are less polluting than bunker fuel and are safe .There are policies worth arguing over but is the ban one of them

Trevor is an american-lover, but he is right in this case. There would be no risk to New Zealand from nuclear-powered or -armed ships from human countries. There’s no reason we shouldn’t allow a port visit by a Chinese Type 004 carrier.
Wheras letting a ship full of American rapists into New Zealand, nuclear-powered or not, very much _is_ a risk to New Zealand. Just like letting the USAF traffic drugs into Christchurch, or letting Rocket Lab USA launch missiles and spy satellites from Mahia, or the NSA help the zionists target Palestinian children from their two spy bases is an active existential risk to New Zealand that must be eliminated.
I’ll try and it explain it. Nuclear armed and or powered warships are for war. War making is not needed in an independent nuetral NZ.
We are not neutral or independent. We would be seen as a western nation with alliance to USA ,UK and .Australia who is due to get nuclear subs soon. Will we keep them all out if the ship hit the fan

Nuclear weapons are the exact opposite of safe, Their deadliness is their whole raison d’être.
Opponents of New Zealand’s nuclear legislation, like Trevor, will try to narrow the argument down to the ban on nuclear powered ships. as a tactical strategy. I know that.
And we can fall into the trap of arguing up hill and down dale all day and all night, on how safe or unsafe floating nuclear power reactors installed in war ships are, and drag out tables and statistics and nearby air and water geiger counter readings. We can even argue over whether nuclear power might be a solution to climate change, as James Hansen does.
But that is not the main argument.
Nuclear free New Zealand is not a ban just on nuclear powered ships, it’s a ban on nuclear weapons,
New Zealand’s nuclear free legislation bans all foreign nuclear and conventional powered warships that refuse to demonstrate to the satisfaction of the New Zealand authorities that they are not carrying nuclear weapons, which everyone knows are deadly, and a danger to all life on earth.
And Trevor and others like him know they cannot win that argument.
NZ needs to put some number of $billions into creating a research and production pharmaceutical industry that can back engineer and cheaply produce the drugs needed in this country. Keytruda at $7000 a shot every three weeks to save dying cancer patients. The ip research cost of that drug was likely paid off in the first year of production.

Targets for nuclear weapons are all in the Northern Hemisphere.
We are deep in the Southern Hemisphere. We are not a target for nuclear weapons.
We have no nuclear weapons based here – In the 1960s a NATIONAL government under Keith Holyoake stated nuclear weapons will never be based in Aotearoa.

From the strategic point of view it makes no sense to launch a first strike from the Southern Hemisphere against a target in the Northern Hemisphere. It will be intercepted before it gets anywhere near the target.
The only reason for having nuclear armed ships in our ports is so the USA can show are its puppet.
We are a (completely legitimate) target for nuclear weapons until we eliminate the hostile American bases that threaten the world in Mahia, Waihopai, Harewood, Tangimoana, Auckland Central, Waihopai, and Wellington.
Of course we are slaves to Yank land…as is every Western nation…if not most nations in the world. And yet we don’t believe Yank land to be the problem, relative to Russia or China or whomever else the Yanks dictate to us that we need to hate/fear!
We are a small trading nation on the edge of nowhere. Our economy relies on us maintaining friendly cooperative relationships with our trading partners. China imports over $2trillion goods a year and the USA over $3tr. Neither would miss us at all if we sunk into the sea tomorrow but if either or both cut us off totally our economy would slide into the ocean.
