This race baiting political stunt, allowed by Chris Luxon because he was so desperate to become Prime Minister, has backfired horrifically for the Government.
Many of my fellow citizens do not know that there were two treaties.
They do not know that the two Treaties mean different things and they certainly do not know that New Zealand is signed up to UN obligations that state that when in this exact situation occurs, where there are two versions of a Treaty, that the indigenous version takes precedence.
Many of our fellow Citizens do not understand that means Māori never ceded sovereignty, and ACT are manipulating those voters ignorance to endorse legislation that would gut the very fairness they pretend to fight for!
Those speaking against this political stunt have been the very best of New Zealand’s egalitarian intellectual muscle.
There are far too many to mention, but I can not begin without saluting the criticisms of Professor Jane Kelesy, Hilda Harawira, Chris Finlayson, Dame Jenny Shipley, Helmut Modlik, Kiri Allen, Sir Geoffrey Palmer, Unions, Māori organisations, Churches, academics, political scientists, the incredible voices of our young people – they have all in their insight and oversight – done us immense pride in articulating the egalitarian values of this Nation in a way that will echo down the corridors of time.
They are speaking to the future of our nation when our children’s-children’s-children look back into the annals of time to hear their words, their fierceness and their righteousness.
The tyranny of the majority deciding the legal right of the indigenous minority is the very antithesis of the democratic values this country was built upon.
The cavalcade of political circus freaks who have spoken on behalf of this Trojan Horse abomination have mounted an intellectual and philosophical defence that borders on a cross burning, banjo twanging, redneck jamboree.
Not one argument in favour of this legislation stands up to any scrutiny and highlights the truth that this is, and always has been, a bad faith argument from ACT that has no basis in reality!
It’s a race baiting political stunt that has backfired terribly for the Government.
ACT will absolutely jump in double digit support because the polarisation of social media hate algorithms are empowering them, but it is driving the centre over to Labour and making non-voters politically active.
Thos against this terrible law have ripped it to pieces, those attempting to defend it have embarrassed themselves with their petty bigotry.
History is watching and the Right’s malice on race has poisoned their well.
ACT will benefit, the Government will lose.
Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.
One law for all kiwis so long as you are not Maori ,Gay or a woman .
Some of the esteemed persons not mentions is Dame Marilyn Joy Waring who’s a public policy scholar, international development consultant, former politician, Tania Waikato lawyer who been responsible for mobilizing on Tiktok, FB, Instagram etc..1000s of citizens requesting OIA for the redacted paragraphs to the “Regulatory Standards Bill” Historian Vincent O’Malley who advised the Waitangi Tribunal on historic facts. Aaron Hawkins the silver fox of Dunedin who’s powerful submission flawlessly owned ACT MP Todd Stephenson question and finally Anjum Rahman who also owned Todd Stephenson question about Maori getting special rights
The other mistake that was made was by their mothers.
Golly naughty mothers.
Some mothers do have ave em except for troll bots with crook processors
Once the bill has been voted down it will be forgotten by all except a few that would not voted for the Right anyway.
As the economy picks up, mortgage repayments drop ,unemployment drops the government will be in a sweet spot by 26.
3026? I guess that you are the glass half full type although I think that what is coming is going to seriously disturb your world view
Dream on sonny… “it will be forgotten”.. Unlike the reactionary rump that had no idea, or cared, what happens past last weeks local rugby match, there is a wirespread, and deepening level of anger, contempt, and hopelessness prevalent out in the community wherever I go… And it’s only going to build..
The realisation that the “paradise” they were promised was an illusion, and large numbers of them are leaving while they dtill can..
All of them, once were “right wing warriors” but no more… Now they’re learning to hate you tory parasites…
Definitely, the Treaty Principles Bill was a miscalculation by the right, arising out of their curious presumption that a public “debate” or “conversation” on Te Tiriti and broader constitutional issues would necessarily go their way.
Our Treaty is the first thing protecting us from rampant privatisation and loss of our own sovereignty.
If we fuck this up, we really will be fucked.
I think you are under estimating the right and the long term strategy that sits behind what the coalition is doing. The Treaty Principles Bill is their party – they chose the narrative, the music and they told liberals and progressives when to dance. Behind the scenes they are building a growing online presence – Sean Plunket, Duncan Garner and many of NZ’s wealthiest business people are constructing the media infrastructure that has been used successfully in the UK, Argentina and the US.
They are building tunnels under the left while we look at the big bright and shiny Treaty Principles Bill being waved in front of our eyes. The TPB should have been ignored and boycotted because that would have made Seymour look like a loser. Instead we are all dancing like puppets on strings with Seymour’s twitching unseen hands above our heads.
The right know how to win elections using tactics and operations that the left are almost completely ignorant of. This article only highlights just how blissfully unaware and vulnerable we are.
Martyn – Time will tell.
But can you tell the time
The key purpose of the Treaty Principles Bill on top of all the other snark cruelty directed at Māori is not to change the treaty. The key purpose of what they are doing – and it will continue unabated right up to polling day in 2026 – is to radicalize the Māori Party to the extent that they become politically isolated and removed as a coalition partner from the left in 2026. If the left becomes split along a Moari Party fault line that weakens our chances significantly in 2026. By association Labour could lose middle and working class votes via a manufactured culture war especially as our media fragments into online silo’s. This is what the right are doing –
it’s been done already else where and been successful.
The left must show people they are competent and they understand 90% of us want pretty much the same things.
