Covid-19 inquiry executive director and assisting counsel resign
The executive director of the Covid-19 inquiry and two lawyers assisting the second phase of the inquiry have resigned.
In a statement, Internal Affairs Minister Brooke van Velden said she does not wish to speculate on why they had chosen to resign, and she still expected the chairperson to present a final report by next February.
Stuff has reported that executive director Helen Potiki and the assisting counsel – Kristy McDonald and Nick Whittington – are understood to have quit over concerns about the inquiry’s processes.
But the minister said she had concerns about timeframes not being met, based on the quarterly report provided by the commissioners.
Potiki had been in the role since October 2024.
The second phase of the inquiry is a political hit job designed to appease ACTs reactionary redneck support base and establish the health of the economy trumps the health of the actual people.
Staff are walking away rather than participate in the rights Kangaroo Court, just as they are doing walking away from Health NZ.
These are dedicated staff who would rather resign than implement far right foaming lunacy as policy.
The public should be deeply alarmed at what the true motivations are.

I don’t know about praising Kristy McDonald’s integrity too highly, considering how, acting as toady for the prosecution, she conducted her inquiry into the Scott Watson convictions.
I think we should consider the possibility that wee Brooky Wooky has a bit of a thing for the socially awkward EeeOre SeeMore and that the Dave has had other plans in the relationship department.
