Wait, wait, wait.

WHAT?!?

Police training and procedures for protests need an overhaul – IPCA

Police failed to protect people from protesters at a high-profile rally and made unlawful arrests at another, says the Independent Police Conduct Authority.

Yes.

Absolutely.

The Posie Parker protest was insane and the middle class activists who managed to take the bait of a culture war grifter and horrify the rest of the country who saw a women in the town square attacked and driven off helped lose the last election for the Left.

I was the first on the Left to criticise the activists AND the Police response, so the Independent Police Conduct Authority who is made up of ex cops and is one of the only protections citizens have when Police abuse their power investigated and found what…

It says police training and procedures need an overhaul,

…EXACTLY!

The Police did not anticipate what was happening and simply stood by as the melee quickly gained momentum. It was obvious in the first 5 minutes that this was poorly organised and was getting out of hand.

The Police should have moved once that mood changed and moved in and removed her from the Band Rotunda.

I was there live tweeting that the Police needed to move in and remove her at the time.

How the Spinoff attempted two paint the Posie Parker event vs how it actually went down

So, what else does the IPCA have to recommend…

but they also need law changes to give them more powers to deal with increasingly disruptive protesters and the rise of counter-protests.

…woah – WTF?

WTF?

You need what now?

The authority’s review of the policing of public protests said police should be empowered to arrest people who disobeyed their instructions during a protest.

It also recommended new laws to protect critical infrastructure and private homes, and to allow police or councils to charge protest organisers for some or all of the cost of traffic management.

…WHAT?

The Independent Police Conduct Authority, the shield of defence that citizens can go to if the Police over step and abuse their power has argued the cops need MORE powers to arrest people at protests???

HOW IS THAT THE CONCLUSION???

In the Posie Parker case, the Police needed to have the gumption to move in and safely remove her from the situation she had placed herself in for the maintenance of order, they didn’t need to turn on the anti-Posie protesters and start arresting them FFS!

In terms of the Zionist Christofascist leather thugs of Destiny Church attacking a Pro-Palestine rally, Brian bloody Tamaki was telegraphing his intentions to cause trouble days before that protest happened!

Rather than hand the cops new powers to arrest protestors, fine protestors and a vetting form to gain compliant protests, how about the fucking cops use their existing powers and properly police these things in the first place!

The bloody Independent Police Conduct Authority is supposed to be on the peoples side, as a check and balance against Police abuse of power, they are not a fucking ideas board for a Police State!

This is a liberal progressive democracy and the right to protest is essential.

Has the polarised nature of social media hate algorithms taken things to a new level?

Yes they have.

Is it difficult policing in that environment?

Yes it is.

But the solution is not eroding our civil liberties, they are in the proper policing by a properly funded Police force whose use of force is heavily tempered by a non violent approach to these types of public confrontations because those public confrontations are only going to start becoming more violent.

Look at the despicable attack on the library by the same Zionist Chistofascists, we need a large presence Police force at these events who purposely engage in these protests to keep people safe while protesting their right to protest.

The solution is not thugging up the Police State and imposing a register for protest with powers to arrest.

We need smarter policing than this blunt object.

New Zealand is not a Police State and the Independent Police Conduct Authority is supposed to protect our civil rights, not undermine them!

Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.

  1. Here’s what we do. Because fuck it, I know. Here’s what we can do.
Farmers? Strike. And the rest of AO/NZ’s population will be right behind you. You will be, right? Do you eat? Do you shop? Then you are right behind our farmers. Choke off the scum’s free money. Starve the Rats! No disrespect to actual rats intended. It’s the only way. @ Maori? Please? Come on in? Have a cup of tea. Now urgently do nothing beside our farmers except to wait. Trust me you won’t be waiting long.

  2. The fools you are looking for have already exited the territory. The remaining fools are those voting for societal collapse and the animals that will murder them when it collapses fully.

  3. Peace Action Aotearoa has mentioned the Police push for further powers.
If the police are to get all they want it would mean the right to stop protests before they start(effectively selective bans).
If this happens the only effective protests will be unannounced occupations and surprise actions by increasingly radicalised activists (there is no law that will ever stop protests).
Will police then arrest them? As with bans on gang patches the police can be challenged to prove they were justified in their arrests and a lot of police and court time can be wasted. Do the public really want that?
Let us emulate the ‘Ploughmen of Parihaka’ who filled Taranaki jails to the extent the Police had to stop arresting them.
(The government won that fight but only did so by ignoring its own laws. I imagine they will have to repeat that history again)

  4. The problem is from the Top -down. Like your graphic shows, it is the directives of those that assume absolute authority over its people and allowing their extreme ideologies to propagate through minority groups. Police unfortunately must follow their overlords and not the will of the majority. Our politicians feel insulated as they needn’t worry like those in the US, contending with their second amendment. Our two party system is merely two cheeks of the same ass!

  5. ‘Police bashing at every opportunity.’
Are you a Police officer Bob? Somehow I doubt it. If you are you know bashing works both ways.
Back in the days when my dad was a trade unionist and participant in protests here and overseas, Sid Holland’s government passed laws giving wide powers to the New Zealand Police.
Trade unionists were forbidden to distribute their pamphlets and literature.
Dad and his mates stood in the street in groups of about forty, passed out pamphlets, and waited for the cops to do something.
    Nothing happened.
It was forbidden to feed strikers families or to extend credit to them or to give money to them.
From Tauranga Dad and his mates bought sheep, slaughtered them and trucked the carcasses up to Auckland where they distributed the meat to families of watersiders on strike.
On just one occasion they were stopped by a police car whose driver looked in the truck.
‘What are you doing with that meat?’
‘ We are taking it to the families of the men on strike.’
Cop looks at two burly watersiders. Looks at the Ford Zephyr following behind with four blokes in it, gets back in cop car and drives off. Meat truck continues on its way.
Police do not want to bash anyone. Police live in communities with other people and do not want to suffer retribution.

    • Societal cohesion, and the connection that modern police ah officers nee policemen have to their community, has sadly decreased since then.
