Protest meets Luxon in Akaroa, while Waitangi enjoys tranquillity
Some mischievous reporting (ie lies) by Stuff this afternoon about the Waitangi Day protest at Ōnuku marae. Stuff says:
“In contrast, protests managed to find Prime Minister Christopher Luxon in the South Island. Police removed pro-Palestine protesters, including John Minto, who ignored pleas for peace by mana whenua, and interrupted Luxon’s speech in Akaroa”
The truth was that police removed one protestor who interrupted Christopher Luxon’s speech. They didn’t remove me or any other protestors. Neither were we asked to leave by the police or mana whenua and neither did we “ignore pleas for peace by mana whenua”.
We were outside the marae throughout the protest and we discussed the marae protocol with the marae liaison representative immediately beforehand who told us we should not protest loudly during the powhiri (which of course we understood and accepted) However we were specifically told we could “make as much noise as you like” after the powhiri which we did when we knew PM Luxon had begun to speak. Some other marae staff then approached us and asked us to stop using a loudhailer till the end of the PM’s visit. We did so.
It’s good to have the protest reported – ever if the protest message of opposing colonisation in Aotearoa and Palestine was not seen as worthy to let the public know about – but downright misrepresentation and lies are not acceptable.
Typical mainstream media twisting the truth but that doesnt bother you Bob because you just love supporting twisted messaging you are a master at it.

Minto shouldn’t have been trying to use a loud hailer like this. It was the height of bad manners.
All speakers should have the opportunity to be heard without John disrupting the proceedings.

It’s funny how many right wing trolls are suddenly experts on Māori Tikanga, as if any of you gave a shit about Māori Tikanga before! Minto has done for more for race relations in this country than any of you hateful trolls have.
Sooo many right wing trolls here. John Minto is a great hero, never stops fighting the good fight. Such energy and commitment is awesome and awesome inspiring.

Minto and his mob have no respect for any commemoration, celebration or cause other than their own hijacking and disruption. Annoyance and attention is their goal.
