What was the bet that the 63 year old pakeha woman’s name was ‘Karen’…
Racial abuse and assault claims mar family outing at Cable Bay
- A family outing at Cable Bay turned distressing with allegations of racial abuse and assault.
- Peter-Lucas Jones claims a woman became hostile after being asked to leash her dog.
- A 63-year-old woman was arrested for common assault and will appear in court later.
What began as a relaxing family outing at Waipapa (Cable Bay), near Taipā, turned into a distressing encounter involving allegations of racial abuse and assault.
Police have investigated a formal complaint from entrepreneur and NorthlandRegional Councillor Peter-Lucas Jones, who claims a woman became hostile after she was asked to leash her dog, which had been frightening young children. Police confirmed they had received the complaint and spoken to both parties in the matter and witnesses.
A 63-year-old woman was arrested on Thursday and will appear in court at a later date in relation to common assault.
…Let’s have a wee gander at what ‘Karen’ had to say…
According to Jones, his niece Aneta, visiting from Australia, politely asked the woman to leash her dog or play elsewhere. Instead of complying, the woman allegedly pushed Aneta, hurled racial slurs, and made derogatory remarks, calling her a “fat, oompaloompa Māori b****” and claiming Ngāti Kahu people were “entitled.”
“She was screaming at the top of her lungs, ‘this is not Māori land, this is not a Māori beach’, and repeatedly called us ‘uneducated cannibals’,” Jones told the Herald.
Jones said he attempted to de-escalate the situation, but claimed the woman continued yelling abuse, threw her frisbee at him, and agitated her unleashed dog. He described the incident as both verbally and physically aggressive, putting the safety of the children at risk.
…Jesus wept those 63 year old pakeha women are the worst arn’t they?
The sense of privilege, the unleashed dog, the jaw dropping racism when asked to do something about her unleashed dog.
Money on the table that ‘Karen’ votes ACT, NZF or National.
What a joyful wee reminder that it has always been redneck Cracker with the racial problem in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.
She may also have personal and/or mental health issues affecting her behaviour – it’s very sad she has none or little self control
Thank you Jeromi, first thing I thought too was the woman has mental health problems.
But we all have those these days (mental health problems). it is a bit convenient to overlook egregious behaviour with that excuse. No doubt you are making the point that should be considered, so that judgment allows for that and is slightly less harsh.
You are right to suggest mental problems could be at the heart of the problem . In Chch CBD there are plentybof abusive people both Maori and Pakeha mental illness does not discriminate. Depression can take you to dark places and you think the world is against you .I
I would suggest the courts are the best place to decide the outcome before categorizing the situation. as a racist attack
If this is an accurate account of what happened then without doubt this woman’s conduct is a disgrace.
I have a dog and everywhere we go she gets swarmed by people. Is that irony?
That tells me you brought your companion up right… Dogs are a reflection of their envoronment, which all too often is toxic to their mental health… and their lifespan..
Martyn – The bit which saddens me is it happened in front in kids…
Martyn, you normally prefer both sides of the story to be tested before coming to a view. The Court will no doubt hear the evidence if she pleads not guilty.
If her name’s not Karen don’t call her Karen- discrimination right there!
Nah – they’re horrible, but 63-year-old white men are the absolute worst.
Blenkinsop. Wrong, they get worse. As the Beatles sang, “ Will you still need me, will you still feed me, when I’m 64 ? “ and I reckon that they were talking about white sort of men. No wonder that half of Auckland and Hamilton’s males were transgenderising in frocks all over Albert Park…supported by the Greenies, a PM, and that white Human Rights Commissioner heading the same way age-wise…
Was there someone with a camera cellphone handy? It would have made great news item and also demonstrated what people have to put up with from racial slurs. Usually they aren’t as blatant as this ‘oompaloompa’! Did she really say that word?
Dog lovers can be loath to put their dog on a leash. I have found this with some women. They think it is wrong to limit their animal’s natural impulses no matter what. Some also carry this attitude to cats and won’t have them spayed for the same reason. Seem to have no idea of community respect and behaviour.
Greywarbler. Not sure if this sort of behaviour should feature as a news item, more so if the woman has mental health issues. A man recently walked down our mall, over the road, and into a side street chanting, “ F*ck you, whites ,” and everyone ignored him or scuttled into shop doorways; general consensus was that he was a nutter, but I suppose that he could have belonged to that vociferous political party.
There’s a busker down Courtney Place who sings”F*ck the police”, and used to appear singing on television advertisements and he may still do so, I don’t know, I no longer watch television, but racism isn’t a one way street. Chinese property-developer neighbour isn’t the nicest either, which is quite unusual, as Chinese are traditionally very polite towards older people and shouting at unrelated old ladies is close to unheard of, it leaves one shaken.
Cannibalism slurs suggest that the dog walker may be stuck in a time warp, so I’d tread carefully.
“Money on the table that ‘Karen’ votes ACT, NZF or National.”
I’ll go with it being NZF.
If you are a dog owner the best form of defence is attack. Ask any ex-newspaper delivery person, postal worker, meter reader, pedestrian who walks past a house with aggressive dog, dog turd disposal person who confronts dog owners about the bite wound, torn clothes, stinking mess the beloved bow-wow has caused.
” She/he won’t hurt you. Stop being such a crybaby.’
‘It’s only a little bit of shit. Why all the fuss?’
” You must have done something to provoke him/her. He/she has never bitten anyone before.’
Well I remember the dark night when I finally managed to shoot the gentle, sweet Doberman/labrador cross that had repeatedly attacked sheep.
It had a collar with a name, address, telephone number. A weeping woman arrived to collect the corpse of sheep murderer and cursed me for cold blooded dog killer.
I pointed to a dead sheep and the huddle of panic stricken and wounded. ” Don’t you think they deserve humane treatment as well?’ I challenged.
‘No – they are just meat – my dog had a soul.’
I gave up arguing at this stage. Incidentally I found that although a dog can attack stock on a number of occasions a judge will only award compensation for any that were actually killed at the time you caught the dog in the act.
sHE MUST BE RELATED TO THE KAIPARA MAYOR ,HE IS A RACIST ARSEHOLE LIKE HER .sHE MAY EVEN BE SOUTH AFRICAN
As a 63 yr old white woman, I call bullshit. Is it now ok to be both racist, sexist and ageist because of one encounter with some semi deranged individual? I get its tongue in cheek but you just slurred tens? of thousands of us.
Nah I am betting it wasn’t tongue in cheek Fantail.
Not sure why this has a racial component. It’s not like a Maori never called a white person a honky bitch. But that’s not national news (or racism) apparently.
Middle class Maori not poverty stricken or gang would have been particularly triggering.
I don’t think Ms Mehpara Khan or Posie Parker would agree with you there Martyn.
“Aren’t 63 year old Pakeha women just the worst?”
You’re not referring to @ Zelda’s alter ego are you? Or maybe @ Fucking Ada
