Announce protest actions, general chit chat or give your opinion on issues we haven’t covered for the day.

The Editor doesn’t moderate this blog,  3 volunteers do, they are very lenient to provide you a free speech space but if it’s just deranged abuse or putting words in bloggers mouths to have a pointless argument, we don’t bother publishing.

All in all, TDB gives punters a very, very, very wide space to comment in but we won’t bother with out right lies or gleeful malice. We leave that to the Herald comment section.

EDITORS NOTE: – By the way, here’s a list of shit that will get your comment dumped. Sexist abuse, homophobic abuse, racist abuse, anti-muslim abuse, transphobic abuse, Chemtrails, 9/11 truthers, Qanon lunacy, climate deniers, anti-fluoride fanatics, anti-vaxxer lunatics, 5G conspiracy theories, the virus is a bioweapon, some weird bullshit about the UN taking over the world  and ANYONE that links to fucking infowar.

In an end-of-year interview with RNZ, Te Pāti Māori co-leader Debbie Ngarewa-Packer says they needed to “get past ourselves” and collaborate: they have worked well with the Greens in the past, and are figuring out how to team up with Labour.
Labour says discussions between the three are quite casual and informal, but the Greens say they are meeting regularly and planning on formalising that arrangement.
Te Pāti Māori will consider contesting general seats at the next election, and intends to grow the Māori roll in part to reduce the number of general electorates.
The party would also prioritise tax policy and protecting Te Tiriti, saying the contentious Māori Parliament policy should be debated nationwide, rather than in Parliament

Use Labour by all means – the news says that it is vacillating as usual. We are in a Hillsborough situation, locked in, must climb on bodies to reach open position and safety. Labour must be prepared for sacrifice. An honourable way out – better than a gibbet which they deserve.

Human beliefs can be built on lots of things. So just looking at the prefix ‘con’* one can see how agile the human mind is. Pity that we can’t come together to agree and produce a workable societal system that matches our fine brains, and is proof against wild fantasies of endless wealth and cruise ships etc etc.
    *con-
word-forming element meaning “together, with,” sometimes merely intensive; it is the form of com- used in Latin before consonants except -b-, -p-, -l-, -m-, or -r-. In native English formations (such as costar), co- tends to be used where Latin would use con-.

    Thinkpiece:
What about, instead of a mass of people in a tug-of-war which is simple and mainly physical, our society sets about forming groups, that interact with other groups under a general sort of limited power-of-attorney system which is not precise on every point, so we can act ourselves or on behalf of others within the group and with other groups in generally agreed ways, on most things. It will probably already be being done in some place or situations, and we should look at how these examples work out, their defects and positives.

    concatenate (v.)
“to link together, unite in a series or chain, ” 1590s, from Late Latin concatenatus, past participle of concatenare “to link together,” from com “with, together” (see con-) + catenare, from catena “a chain” (see chain (n.)). Related: Concatenated; concatenating. As an adjective, concatenate “linked together” is attested from 1540s.

What Christopher Luxon makes of his government’s 2024 efforts
    5:26 pm on 16 December 2024
Prime Minister Christopher Luxon is closing out the year “incredibly proud” of his team which has “delivered the work throughout 2024”.

Speaking to media alongside Local Government Minister Simeon Brown at the year’s final post-Cabinet meeting media briefing, Luxon said it had been a “mammoth” year for the government – “a good start”.
New Zealanders should “hopefully feel confident that our plan…
is starting to rebuild the economy,
    reduce the costs of living,
make all Kiwis safer by restoring law and order,
improve education so our kids are ready to do what they need to do into their futures and …
deliver better health care for everyone”.
But, he said, “I’ll be the first to tell you we have a lot more to do”.

What next? Witch-burning, branding criminals with hot irons? I would go on but may be feeding ideas to blotting paper minds that will suck up anything nasty, as part of their total suck-up mentality.

  4. The Coalition Govt intends restoring freedom of speech to New Zealand’s universities. Excellent.
If Waikato Uni can’t cope with freedom of expression and academic freedom, tough; ditto OU and the others acting like boa constrictors.

      • ” And it seems….” blah de blah de blah,

Yes, we all know that you prefer the approach your idol takes to free speech, as it is eloquently explained here (for educational purposes):

“Trump’s chief thug wants to put Rachel Maddow in prison. Steve Bannon: “I need investigations, trials and then incarceration… Andrew Weissmann on MSNBC and Rachel Maddow and all of them.”….” listen here:

        • Richard, I support everyone’s right to free speech.

Talking is how we sort out our differences.

The Greens need to grow up and learn to debate.

This is the nature of politics and a cornerstone of our democracy.

      • All over the western world, the left have lead the opposition to free speech, and tried to control what people say. Look what they did at the UNO, and at Albert Park in NZ, determined not to give women voices. To be fair, controlling what people say, think and write is a hallmark of all extremists, not just our local loopy Greenies.

      • The Chairman. Of course the Greens oppose academic freedom. The University of Waikato mightn’t be able to churn out half-baked wailing banshees any more. Massey won’t be able to ban meanies who might hurt their feelings. VUW has a costly conundrum with its centre of excellent extremism haters bursting out all over the place, and in the cold Deep South, Otago could find its pc research censorship committee, adding to the unemployment stats. Forget about Auckland.
