PSNA congratulates the Nelson City Council on its vote this afternoon to amend its procurement policy to exclude companies identified by the United Nations Human Rights Council as being complicit in the building and maintenance of illegal Israeli settlements on Palestinian land.

“Nelson City Council is taking action while our government is looking the other way”, says PSNA National Chair John Minto. “It is Christopher Luxon who should be ending all New Zealand dealings with companies involved in the illegal Israeli settlements”.

“Instead out government is cowardly complicit with Israeli war crimes.” (It is a war crime to move your citizens onto land you occupy as Israel is doing)

Nelson City Council joins Environment Canterbury and the Christchurch City Council who both adopted this policy earlier this year – other local bodies are following!

We also congratulate local Palestine solidarity activists in Nelson who have organised and battled so well for this historic win today. They are the heroes behind this decision

In light of the Nelson City Council move today we are renewing our call for the government to act and

  1. Ban all imports from the illegal Israeli settlements
  2. Direct the Superfund, ACC and Kiwisaver providers to end their investments in all Israeli companies and other companies supporting the illegal Israeli settlements.
  3. Direct New Zealand government agencies to end procurement of goods or services from all Israeli companies and other companies supporting the illegal Israeli settlements.

  1. Haahaa, Israel will be shaking in their boots, the mighty sleeping hamster Nelson.
Must be hard trying to find good news against Israel Mr Minto, they have hammered Hezbollah and trampled Hamas into the sand.
But…but…”BREAKING NEWS”, Nelson has voted to sanction Israel.
And now with Trump about to be President, Hamas pleading for a peace deal, betchya one signed up to before Jan 20th and Hostages returned!

    • Very perceptive, ‘IR”, Israel is indeed, shaking in its boots. Its barely dented Hamas, while Hezbollah are giving the IDF nightmares. Of course, Israel is slaughtering tens of thousands of civilians, hammering them, trampling them, demolishing neighborhoods/towns/cities, starving hundreds of thousands of people into dire subsistence…yes this aspect of this conflict they are still mastering, but alas they needed to broker a ceasefire deal with Hezbollah because, well, the IDF has not fought a real army since they were last humiliated by Hezbollah back in the 2006…so they needed a time out. Awfully decent of Hezbollah I must say. Meanwhile, Netanyahu still outright refuses a peace deal and is still absolutely uninterested in a return of Israeli hostages, because he still has, as you quite rightly point out, a lot of hammering and trampling of civilians to conduct. Nonetheless, we can add little ole Nelson to the trickle of areas, at this stage, throughout the world sanctioning, at the very least, Israel. A trickle today, a force that even blind, weak governments can’t ignore, tomorrow. As for Trump, what can he do other than speed up, therefore draw even greater attention to, this horror show!

      • The Salesman – Yes…the UN Special Rapporteur has been slammed by the UK, France, Germany, and USA U.N. reps for her unhelpful comments.

        • Yep, these are the countries at the forefront of enabling genocide, hence their dislike of someone/anyone speaking out against this atrocity..

          • A O – Wrong again…Her, the Special Rapporteur, role to improve the Israel-based Palestinian lives, she has failed – and blames/smears everyone, except Hamas.

          • Wow, what a video, what an exceptional human being this Special Rapporteur actually is. She speaks the language of international law. She does not directly name Hamas here, but all those that committed crimes on Oct 7th, and since then as well, needs to investigated and punished accordingly. She is unequivocal in this. She speaks bluntly about criminal behavior, and those that support such acts and of political incongruity and the media’s role in helping to permeate this toxic mix. Her role is clearly to foster peace through the application of human rights backed by international law. Her bluntness will upset many put fostering peace has never being the act of the timid. This video is a must watch for everyone here, not to mention a stellar example of the fragility of human perception.

            • Does the demented woman even know Hamas doesn’t acknowledge the existence of Israel?
Repeat after Francesca Hamas: Israel does exist.

                • As I said above, and as this video shows, Hamas is never mentioned here let alone supported by her – unless, unless – you believe Palestinians and Hamas to be one in the same! Again, this video is enlightening and a must watch for every TBS member/reader here, not only for what she says, but because of how it exposes the veracity of the perceptiveness and beliefs, that typically arise from one side of this unfortunate issue.

            • She speaks the language of law as a means of fostering peaceful coexistence and human rights for all. But if you break either of these, then international law is the means to hold the lawless to account. Incredibly simple, incredibly humane, but yes, incredibly demented to those that flout the law. She is a credit to humanity and a must watch for all.

              • Islamism places Islamic law above western (so-called “universal” law.) Which is why both Saudi Arabia and Iran declined to sign the “Universal” Declaration of Human Rights. You reckon your exceptional human being knows this?

              • Hey, she believes in peace for all with international law being a mechanism to help foster this. Peace for all, equal treatment under the law – for all. This is her argument in a nutshell. It speaks volumes for you and the ‘people’ you argue for, that this does not sit at all well with you!

                • Ms Albanese may well believe in kumbaya but Saudi Arabia and Iran (add in Turkey, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Somalia, Sudan, Indonesia, Malaysia – whoops, why not just make all the OIC) definitely do not. I guess equal treatment under the law doesn’t sit well with them. Maybe your paragon of virtue could visit Mecca for some equal treatment huh?

                • Its not kumbaya, its just peace between peoples using human rights and international law to help foster and uphold this. This is what she advocates for. And unlike you, most people do not have a problem with this. And this all sprung out of questioning about Israel and Palestine so any other context you raise outside of this, in an effort to invalidate her or her position here, holds no water here.
