It’s free speech right up until you say something the Right Wing Free Speech Champions don’t like.
It’s abuse everyone else in the debate and then claim abuse coming back is mean and unfair.
It’s every other Sports Person facing a Haka vs ACT crying because they faced a Haka.
It’s Parliament accepting Waiata but not accepting Haka.
It’s a tale of double standards

If every sports team who faces us can respect the Haka and observe it, why can’t the ACT Party?
Why is ACT more of a snowflake than every single Sports Team we play against?

The Political Right brought a race war to NZ Parliament and the people responded!
…when the Parliament is used to attack those who challenge it, to brutalise the weak and promote injustice, our Democracy is made weaker, not stronger.
Just because you are the majority doesn’t mean you are right, it just means you have all the power!
How you use that power matters!
The Political Right is attempting to rewrite the constitutional framework of our nation for their interests, not the peoples interests and suddenly they are all sad sad about the response their race baiting stunt creates?
We will not allow the far right to rewrite the constitutional framework of our nation for their benefits
Not today! Not tomorrow! Not ever!

Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.

Willie must become leader of the Labour Party.
If Willie became leader that would be a Luxon wet dream. National is already going to lose its far right to Act but Willie would drive centrist Labour supporters to National, who could spin themselves as the only moderate central party. Labour have a tightrope to walk and the winds are blowing from left and right.
And why Peter would Willie drive centrist Labour voters to National? Is it because he is Maori? Please explain with a little more context what you mean please.
Yes that is what Peter means. Sub text, meta text, that’s what is underpinning the reason why Willy is not leader of the Labour party, when clearly he is the only one with the mana and talent and appeal and personality. Chippy has none of those qualities. Except to himself. How the hell did such a functionary get the job. Because he is white.
I must concede Peter the right wing people I know think the Maori Party’s antics are hardening the resolve of the right.
One million percent!!!!Chippy has to hand the reins over, like Andrew Little did for Labour when he persuaded Jacinda. At least he was smart enough to know he wasn’t an inspiring leader, no matter his other qualities. Chippy doesn’t have that in him it would appear. We need a Nancy Pelosi to twist his arm, because a whisper in the ear won’t do it. Step up Helen …..maybe Jacinda? But she has washed her hands of it all. Fair enough it was a pretty shitty ride at the end for her. Ok gotta be Helen.
Inciseful Lone C. Yes we wonder who next.
OMG Jacinda – I got into politics because of child poverty, I became the Pm, I became the minister of child poverty, and I said I would halve child poverty in tens years, and what did I do. ZILCH!
Even less. She was trying to solve poverdy.
Hana Te Maipi Clarke has brought the world’s attention to rights of indigenous people.
Thus she has done more in five minutes than Brownlee, Seymour, Luxon et al will achieve in a lifetime.
Kia Kaha Te Pati Maori!
(Note to detractors: ‘Any publicity is good publicity’ P.T.Barnum)
She should be minister of pakeha education .But that would be pakeha priveledge
No « d » Gordon.
ACT is milking the White people’s Maori hate for all its worth.
They are doing Nationals dirty work for them.
Appealing to base White, Right wing prejudice, ignorance, entitlement
hate, greed and power has been a winner for right wing politics
and the right wing media for 180 years.
Maori keep falling into the same trap.
Maori on the warpath doing haka shouting is juxtaposed against White men in suits quietly speaking white prejudice.
This fits the White narrative that Maori are unstable out of control
seeking advantage while Whites are calm law abiding seeking equality for all.
Unfortunately the Maori MPs have no clue how to play the political media game and continue taking the ACT bait hook line and sinker.
Meanwhile National sit back with out having to do anything let alone
explain why they have not provided the 200,000 new jobs they promised the 200,000 new homes they promised the 200,000 more operations they promised.
It would be far better to be proactive not reactive.
Maori MPs should set up a simple Political Rhetoric.
Just speak quietly and calmly.
Only talk about the “Cheaty”.
Only talk about the White “invasion”.
Only talk about Whites “stealing” the country.
Say Whites have only paid back 1% of what they stole.
A few powerful points repeated over and over is the key.
Associate George Grey as a mass murderer
Associate Queen Victoria as complicit in mass murder.
Associate all the NZ Governors and prime Minister as mass murderers.
Associate the British military as mass murderers.
Just keep the narrative tight and on point.
Limit the number of spokes people to only those are skilled at this narrative.
Repeat this narrative for the next 10 years and inculcate an entire young generation should be the goal
Notice the law was bought foward a week so Luxon and Peters could skulk off over seas and not have to step up and face the music .Luxon will say its not my fault I was not in the country ,Winston will just spout some anti maori shit a attack the aussies again .
Good point!
Can we add Te Rauparaha and Hone Heke to that list of murderers too? Oh wait…
A few weeks ago a much loved kui passed away. As she lay in the wharenui, and after the elders had made their farewells, the children of the village came in and performed a haka before the casket. Was that done in anger? Of course not. It was an expression of love. And a promise that they, the mokopuna, would carry on her work in life. “Ka mate, ka ora…”.
A haka can mean many things. Pride, defiance, love and redemption. All of these and more. Each of us will have their own sense of the haka in parliament, but I would say that it was a statement of love for nga iwi Maori and a promise that while we mortals all come and go, Maoritanga shall not die. As such the Speaker should have quietly thanked the kaihaka rather than conspicuously penalize them. But such wisdom must wait for another day.
100% gEOFF BUT MOST OF US ARE IGNORANT OF THE MEANING OF THESE THINGS .tHANKS FOR YOUR EXPLANATION
Likewise 100%
Jerry was a bit pathetic really. In fact a useless lump of lard, when He could have shown Himself to be a non-partisan, decent sort of bloke. Oh Dear, Never mind. Cudda SHudda Wudda. He’s probably bought himself a bit of trouble. Fuk him though, and all that sail in Him.
Of course he could always fess up, and say he made a MIStake. ‘MIS’s and ‘DIS’s’ are current;y in fashion – from speaking to information
Bertrand Russell said if colonisation benefits the colonised through better use of the land it’s ok.
Where do we fit in that proclamation?
Maori were very good farmers before pakeha came and were already trading with NSW .Thats why they murdered huge numbers around Te AWAMUTU because it was good cropping land .Best brush up on your history .
What would he know about indigenous rights.
What an appalling comment by Bertrand Russell he clearly was never colonised.
The Methodist church throughout the country are looking, actually individual Methodist churches have been charged with looking at who owned the land and what it was used for before the whiteman took over. I have listened to one talk on thee Methodist church on the corner of Barrington and Somerfield streets. It is absolutely fascinating. The whiteman of course thought the land was being wasted, but it was their (Maori) foodbasket.
Perhaps few of the Methodists will remain as pew sitters!
GB suspended the house ‘cos of the haka, maybe he should have suspended the house when a bunch of property investors got in and immediately changed the rules to suit themselves. I think it used to be called ‘graft’, which is very similar to the word ‘theft’.
It’s a nice Simeon Brown impersonation, insult Maori and then cry like a boy needing white mummy protection.
Yep I remember brown shitting his pants when a gang member walked up to him and went BOO .Before that he was going to deal to the gangs .He went running to Luxon and got the job of fucking up transport.
Maori were very good farmers before pakeha came and were already trading with NSW .Thats why they murdered huge numbers around Te AWAMUTU because it was good cropping land .Best brush up on your history .
When one of the right’s very own says she’d have done exactly what TPM did in parliament then you know the bills divisive…

As we know, Luxon is piss weak.
I suppose we will see the king of the pigs out in Auckland loading up motor bikes and arresting the bible bashers that broke the law yesterday .How come he never sent 500 cops in to arrest them and take their patches .?The man is a fucken joke .After all most of them are maori and the nats are having an all out war against maori .I suppose they will rush a law through over night saying its ok for Churches to break the law because they dont pay tax .
Yawn
