Mental Health Foundation laying off 18% of staff, other charities also facing cuts

- Other NGOs have also warned they’re likely to need to lay-off staff, as ministries look to freeze and cutback on funding.
- The foundation says its Government contracts were not keeping pace with rising costs.
The Mental Health Foundation has confirmed it is looking to lay-off almost one in five of its staff.
The foundation is one of a number of charities which Stuff understands are assessing their operations and preparing to make cuts, given they rely on Government funding which is becoming increasingly hard to access.
The foundation, which relies on donations and government contracts, says funding it gets from the Ministry of Health has not kept up with rising costs “over a number of years”.
The political project of the Right is to starve the State of revenue so that wealth can’t be redistributed in the first place.
They attack the universals the Left fund and build to only focus on funding the ‘worst case scenario’ welfare cases which only serves to drive more people into poverty rather than give them a standard of living they can grow from.
Indeed this Government’s agenda will push up to 13000 children into poverty.
The reason the mental health foundation need to cut is because this Government is more focused on the interests of their donor mates than the people of New Zealand.
These cut backs are happening because this Government is giving the richest landlords a $2.9billion tax break and borrowing $15billion for tax cuts we can’t afford.
Don’t tell me this isn’t a class war! It fucking well is!
This hard right racist climate denying beneficiary bashing Government are literally taking out of the mouths of hungry children to put into the stuffed pockets of the richest amongst us.
That’s a fucking disgrace and Kiwis should hang their head in shame that their post Covid anger was manipulated into electing this Government of malice and spite.

Mike King wants the total privatisation of healthcare. Anyway, he wouldnt know how to fix people’s mental health to save himself, he a just a non profit industrial complex huckster.

There is no evidence to demonstrate recklessness , but plenty to show that underfunding by National for 9 years caused a great deal of harm.

Working on his predictions…Calculated out… it will take 30 years for a couple to save up for a deposit if they can save $40,000 year on year whilst also paying $700 per week in rent . Even then, this would still leave them a $600,000 mortgage to service.
The only problem is, that according to Key’s 10% per annum growth graph, in 30years time, the average house price would be $8 million.

This government gave $5million to gum boot Friday a group that did not get a penny out of Labour , Millions were earmarked by Labour in the budget for mental health which looked great but little was spent and even less was achieved.
In 6 years Labour looked after their union mates by creating a bloated public service which unfortunately did not into turn Into more service for the public . It remains to be seen if the cuts are too deep or not

How can we support Bob and Trevor with their ongoing mental health issues of delusional thinking if National keep gutting the one service that is needed to support the fallout of their reckless and poorly though out cuts. As one of many working in the coal face of mental health Bob I can inform you that you are factually incorrect.
There still aren’t anywhere near enough skilled workers to help the large number of people who need support and yet the Government due to cutbacks has put a freeze on employment. That is not only alarming but very dangerous.
As opposed to National who are fine with mentally ill people being dumped in shithole boarding houses.
