Singlemost destructive influence in NZ are the social prejudices held by the aspirational classes. These prejudices are manipulated by Luxon and people like him and drive NZ further down a road of slash and burn winner takes all to hell with anyone else. Before people turfed Labour out they liked to talk about them being “socialists” like it was a mortal sin. To regain anything remotely useful to anyone NZ would have to embark on a process of working it’s way towards socialism with extreme care and attention to every twist and turn. We can’t just repeal this or that anymore wont matter one bit. giving employers fire at will, landlords eviction at will, that will just entrench prejudices and insecurities and shut people off from reality.

Trotter went off over co-governance and free speech, are the only on the table things I can think of. He can still send out a strong justification for the social-democratic cause despite that. Strange about Israel (‘recently’) and very strange about climate change for a while.
